...discrimination against lefthanded people?
Yes,I know there's a thread for questions like this, but despite my best efforts I can't find it :o:csad:.

Sinistrophobia

Sinistro

Sinister

I knew it! They're evil :argh:
Well, our word "Sinister" comes from the Latin word for "Left",based on the Roman's Sinistrophobia.

Wait... There are actually people scared of other people just because they are left handed?

There might not be a word for it, because I don't think "it" exists.

Honestly? I have never heard of that. I can't even imagine how that's possible. Seems to me that whoever would have that kind of bias is the one with the problem.

It does. My mom was naturally left-handed, but the teachers/nuns at her Catholic school didn't believe that anyone should be lefty, so they made her so everything right-handed. Anytime the caught her using her left hand they'd whap her in the knuckles with a wooden ruler. I didn't believe it until I asked my grandmother and she confirmed my mother's story.

There is a difference between bias and fear. A phobia, a real phobia, is very intense and irrational. It's a big psychological condition. People like to say they are afraid of something, and call it a phobia, but people with actual phobias are stark raving terrified. This woman has pteronophobia.

Make one up. Dictionaries do that and constantly incorporate "modern words" that describe things. Most of these are ridiculous. "Bling" is not a word. . . .butttt Webster's says it is, so go figure out a good one.

Yes, but Sinestrophobia is cognative with "Homophobia", which doesn't mean a real "phobia" either.

However, as most words ending with -phobia are Greek-based and "Sinister" is Latin I propose "Aristophobia" for discrimination against Lefties, and "Sinestrophobia" should mean fear of Lefties.
