I’ll go first. I identify as a leftie but I wish our side didn’t go so hard on Israel. I wish more progressive people would try and think of a peaceful solution or at least not take sides in something they don’t always understand the complexity of.

What about you?

I identify as conservative, but I support those on Food Stamps and require Government assistance.

Many of my fellow Republicans on twitter seem to think anyone on food stamps is a lazy bum and doesn't work.

Many people holding down minimum wage jobs need the help of food stamps just to get by.

I identify as liberal, but I support capital punishment, which is more of a conservative position.

I'm very left, but am confused about the left's stances against GMOs and nuclear power. A lot of anti-vaxxers come from the left too.

Same here.

I'm also against foreign ownership of property in Canada, or I guess, foreign ownership that isn't taxed to what it needs to be. Vancouver is what happens when you allow rich people from other countries to buy property in a city for investment purposes. Vacant homes, staggering house prices, and citizens that are so depressed both monetarily and emotionally that they live to work and that's it.

I'm very liberal but I think homeopathic medicine is complete bull****. You can do whatever you want.. but if I get cancer, I'm gonna rely on peer reviewed, tested, modern science... you can go eat tea leaves or meditate or get acupuncture... or whatever... good luck.

Pretty much anything what MaceB and Lighthouse said.

I will also add that if the Democrats do retake both houses this year (and the Presidency in 2020), we can't get both free college and Medicare for all -- they need to pick one and go with it. People are going to push against a tax increase for both, and there's only so much tax money they can shift from the bloated military budget to either priority.

If they go all in on free college, they need to improve Obamacare and strengthen it to the point that Republicans won't ever think about touching it again. If they go in on Medicare for all, come up with a way to address growing college tuition and make community college/associate programs free as a stepping point.

I'm a slightly right of centre libertarian, but believe the government does have a limited role in certain sectors due to economies of scale, such as healthcare, unemployment insurance and senior's care. But I am against the typical Canadian liberal assumption that all of the above has to be completely free of private sector involvement.

Like most sane people, on this thread and in broader society, I believbe 100% adherence to one political ideology is folly.

Mclay, *free* college is never happening, and basically shouldn't. You've just gotta find a way to get tuition back to 80s/90s levels.

I don't agree with a lot of MeToo. I don't see how free college can happen. I'm not anti-GMO, though I think the issue should be considered more carefully. I'm not wild about the estate tax, and I think liberals should think more carefully about tax policy (without agreeing with the right).

Liberals are too whiny. They let the perfect be the enemy of good.

I am far left of left, way out into the left.

I had voted Liberal Democrat, here in the UK since being allowed to vote until their education policy on tuition fees went U-turn a few years back, plus I wasn't best pleased they climbed into bed with the Conservatives, but I understood and accepted the reasoning, believing they would stand firm on education, which they didn't.

Voted Green at the last 2 x General Election's.

I'm form Mexico, all sides of our politics are awful.

Is there a political side that isn't terrible in some way? Depending on the issue I'm either called a conservative or a liberal, sometimes on the same issue.

I would be considered a leftist liberal by most of the right and probably a left leaning centrist by the more extreme left. Not every issue is a believe this, accept that simplicity. So depending on what it is, I usually end up voting for a Democrat even as I really dislike their leadership and some of the mountains they choose to die on. Rare is it I see a Republican with a spine who isn't bending over to be a puppet for a corporate sponsor or special interest group that is fronted by rich old white men.

I'm pro choice but I don't see as it as a light matter. I think it's tragic that so many abortions have been done. More needs to be done to prevent unwanted pregnancies to begin with.

While Democrats have been better for African Americans than the Republicans have been, they don't deserve a lot of praise either.

I would argue that most liberals don't see it as a light matter either. With better education and access to birth control, abortions become a last resort, but conservatives don't like those either.

There aren't many, but I have heard from liberals that don't care how many or for what reason a woman has an abortion.

My grad school classmates made me uncomfortable because they did seem like urban liberal elites. I felt looked down on because I'm a cis suburban white male. I hated admitting that conservatives had a point in that regard.

I get frustrated regarding how women use their sexuality. Some women say they shouldn't need to be sexual to get ahead, they should rely on their talent. Others say their sexuality is power that they can use to their advantage. I believe in the former but I understand the second. If I "get it wrong," I get eye rolls or a lecture.

Just sit in the middle. Easier to call out bull **** from either side.

I'm on the right on most issues but disagree with how many on the right think about abortions. I'm fine with abortions at any time during a pregnancy that are due to the health of the mother and/or child or the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest. I'm also fine with elective early-term abortions (anything under 4 months) as long as the mother (or family/friends) pay for it out of their own pocket and not with any type of government money.

A peaceful solution? What notable lefties are looking for a violent solution on isreal? Nevermind violence, only activists talk tough on Israel, as all our politicians bow down to aipac at least in the US

I feel like liberals are missing an opportunity to be positive when it comes to abortion. We should be pushing the heck out of adoption as an alternative to an abortion. We should be pushing for incentives to woman who come to term and allow families to adopt their child. That's a heroic act in my view. I think that abortion needs to be a right, but that doesn't mean I support it. I support adoption and doing whatever we can to stop abortions... outside of forcing women to come to term.

The thing is, some women take precautions (use birth control) and end up pregnant anyway. And they do not want to carry a child to term, even if it goes straight to an adopted family after birth. Incentives aren't going to change some minds.

And hey, that's their right... and I have no interest in forcing anyone to do anything that they don't want to do. I'm against the stick on this issue. But I'm not opposed to dangling a few carrots.

I don't think any free thinking person would be a ideologue and not have varying positions on different issues.

Generally I lean more center left. I have some issues with identity politics and overly sensitive political correct stances.
