Superman Returns is this a remake of part 3 or what??plz help!?

I just saw it rightnow since i got the superman ultimate collectors editition and before returns came out i knew very little about it and im so confused about the storyline .. there's lines fro mthe first two movies even jor el is in it and then only thing mentioned about the old movies was the interview with lane and superman in the first film, some of it seem like a direct sequel of superman 2 but not reaily sure, is this confirmd by singer or something??? but if it is i assume is the original version of it cause donenrs cut just came out and if superman turn time in it then luthor wouldent know where supermans place is and how to work the stuff and he did say"he thinks im his son" when he knew it was just like a recording or something in SM 2 but also doesnt jor el in superman 2 only come out in donners cut???

I was hoping it would be a sequel but i guess im only one who actualy liked superman 4,3 was almost ok, i still liked returns but i love the original movies.

plz help to answer i am so damn confused

Superman I is canon. Singer pick and chose what he wanted from Superman 2.

Three and four never happened.

Since Brando is dead, Singer changed Jor-el from being interactive to just a recording.

For me, I just take the old movies in broad strokes. Supes fought Zod, Lex went to the Fortress, Lois and Supes did it.

hmm yea i forgot about the kid and they did it in sm2 but even though superman turns time again(i like that ending and movie versio better) naa i guess i'll just take returns as just an adventure liek if it's based directly from a comic or cartoon i did that with batman forever and batman and robin i imagiend them a just big comic book issue's

To me, Superman Returns is a sequel to Singer's idealised, childhood memory of Superman the Movie.

I'm with Roegle except change it to II. Ok they're a vague history but here's what we can garuntee happend.

Johnathan Kent died.
Clark then, journeyed to the very far North built the Fortress and spent some time there.
Lex had a real estate scam, but Superman thwarted it sending him to prison.
Lex escapes and finds the Fortress.
Superman and Lois do the dirty. Whether she finds out Clark is Supes has now been rendered debatable.
Zod and co. find Earth take over, and finally duke it out with Superman, Lois and Luthor are also present because this is where they meet for the first time.

it seems to me you have to ignore donners cut of S:II,since superman turned back time at the end,he would never have slept with lois.

It seems to me I've only seen a few minutes worth of Donner Cut. It also seems to me I've explained why Superman turning back time affected nothing already in another thread. It also seems to me that Jason lifted a friggin' piano.

P.S. Sorry if I come off as standoffish or rude. I got drunk at my jobs Christmas party and spewed. I've got one hell of a hangover.

^...If you have only saw a few minutes of the donner cut,you need to see it first before dismissing my arguement...its true that jason did push a piano,and I dont disagree(never have) that superman is his father.I just dont think the scene between him and lois in the fortress was when he fathered jason, if you go by the donner cut of S:II...plus turning back time is turning back time,cant ignore that.....(if you use the lester cut,its fine..it SEEMS to me anyway)..no worries about being rude..

These events include Lex visiting the FOS and Superman and Lois having a relationship(but neither event necessarily occuring as it did in Superman 2). What throws people off is that Superman and Lois have a child in SR and therefore think that is a result of their relationship in Superman 2(Lester or Donner cut) which is not true. Singer confirms it's not true in this interview with Stephen Skelton:

Skelton: Gotcha. Yes, from Superman II. And the whole giving up the powers, becoming Clark, being intimate.
Singer: Well, I didn't really stick to that. Y'know, the mylar bed. And the cocktails in the Fortress of Solitude. I wouldn't want to bring that up. All I wanted to reference is they had had a previous, there was some sort of previous relations between them.

Just think of it as the viewer having the choice to follow up Superman: The Movie with Superman 2(Lester or Donner cut) or SR(with the knowledge that some events occured in between).

so basicly some stuff including superman and lane doing it was from before either superman 1 or superman 2 but we just dident see it?? singer seem so clueless like he just wanted a superman movie but not a remake and he obvious dident like 3 or 4 and he likes few stuff from first two films

as for this film it has some cool stuff but it for some reason not as a great feeling and awsome and original movies and they had few parets where superman would reaily be hurt or even dead even if he is a superman, being stab by a piece of krytonite and have that piece in him for a while and as soon as it's out he want's to go back and feel so great??? faling to the ground from space even if without speed im sure superman would atlest have alot bigger coma than just somehow hearing his is a father and that night he in good shape abd very happy??? superman has his eye shot and just boucne off like that? cmon he's supe but atlest have him have a bruce or cut, i bet singer keep saying to cast and crew "he's superman right? he could do anything, he' superman" and have superman spy on louis at her house using x-ray vision?? wtf superman would never do that, i miss reeve so much, he look so natural and real superman, rooth is good but he look to be in a body suit and not real muscle
