Isn't it safe to assume that TIME TRAVEL will NEVER be possible?

And if it were possible, there might be laws in the future that prohibit interference with history.

But the event which prevented it would have to have come from someone in the future with an awareness of whatever they wanted to change coming back to do something. If they prevented it from happening, there would be no motivation for them to come back and change anything.

In the case of a multiverse the person would create a divergent timeline and once they "returned" it would to the divergent timeline and not to their original one.

In Timeline, during the time travel process you actually die and are replaced by one of your alternate duplicates.
But it's still you, so you aren't really dead.

Yeah...it's ****ed

Intentionally stopping an event like 9/11 would be impossible, even if backwards time travel could actually work. If it never happened, you wouldn't know to go back and stop it. And that, little Billy, is what we call a 'paradox'.

not if it the event kept repeating itself like in the film harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban. the time travelling events repeats itself in a loop.

If one believes that at some point in mans history, this great scientific achievement will be possible, isn't it safe to assume that someone should already know about it-in our time?

Think about it, someone from say the year 2800, would have undoutable already been (Or may still be here) and have inter-reacted with someone with the government, so someone from our time should already know time travel will be possible in the future, right?

But here's my thing, IF TIME TRAVEL is one day conceivable, why then did, say '911' still take place? I picked that day because it will be forever mark as a historic day in US history, so someone from the future should know of it. It seems to me that TIME TRAVEL may NEVER be possible due to all the horrific events that have happened over the last few centuries, which could have been easily been prevented by someone coming back in time with the preconcieved knowledge of when, where and how these events take place......

...don't you agree?
---------------------------

Maybe there will be rescrictions on time travel?

Maybe altering an event like '911' will seriously jepodize other future events if prevented?

Maybe someone DID try and prevent some great, historical atrocity, and succeeded in a way. What we deem as horrific, they deemed as an OK outcome-as, ORIGINALLY, the event turned out alot worse?

Your thoughts....

Time travel is already possible.

I'm currently travelling forward in time at the rate of one second for every second that passes in real time.

this has always interested. I have a theory..

what if ufo's are actually time travelling machines? UFO's have been recorded for centuries and they always seem to dissapear as fast as they show up. Maybe it is future men and women visiting the past and maybe they don't actually set foot on ground since they might not be able to go back to their time or they might screw up something.

Loved the show:up: Theoretically it is possible to time travel, cos time space continuum is doghnut shaped.

it's more likely that we will simulate the past based on a unified theory of every thing. so people could view the past without effecting it based on heinseinburg uncertainty.

any way i'm of a philosophical thought now that the past changes asmuch as the future that they are both fluid. since causality goes both ways. and our thoughts interact with the world on some level.

and to the poster taking a perspective where light is static i'm impressed.

this also makes me think that all time exists simultaniously, from one point of reference. so what's the point travelling through time? you just need to achive that point of reference.

If you time travel you create a new timeline. You can't change what already happened.

What about that theory that UFOs and Aliens are not from another planet but are in actuallity Earth time travelers from the FAR future, observing the past? I thought it was interesting...

oh i also had an idea once that if someone ever does time travel they will actually go to the beginning of time as most think of it. which will then actually create space time in an oroboros kind of way. in creating time they change it. but the result is always the same. the universe dies and begins infinitely in infinite configurations.

I enjoy the concept of the multiverse, simply because it allows you to believe that in some alternate universe or another, anything you can imagine will be reality. :)

Time-travelling would result in the birth of another divergent universe, and when the time-traveller returned to their own time, they would be trapped within the divergent universe rather than returning to their own.

^ I also enjoy the idea of alternate universes...the idea that there are other versions of myself is kinda cool...

well looking at my life there are already different versions of me in one life alone. so many is uncessersary for enjoyment of that idea. we change as much as we stay the same.

The movie "The One" with Jet Li played with that idea. Too bad it sucked.
