What are some of the stars whose light shone bright for just a little and then they went into obscurity. I think Ill start with Steve Guttenberg.

I would include Matthew Broderick. Besides Election his career completely fizzled in the 90's to now. I wonder if its due to the people he accidentally killed in the 80's.

I just found out about that a few days ago. You might be right

Wait, what? The people Matthew Broderick killed? What is this malarkey you speak of?

I think he was in a car accident that resulted in people's deaths,(he was found responsible) but it was so long ago,I don't remember details.

Wow. I can't believe I've never heard of that

Sarah Jessica Parker
Matt & Kevin Dillon
Macaulay Culkin & Kieran Culkin

Fatal car accident
On August 5, 1987, Broderick was in a car accident in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, while vacationing with Jennifer Grey, whom he had begun dating in semi-secrecy during the filming of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The accident, which was the event through which their relationship became public, occurred when the rented BMW Broderick was driving crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a Volvo driven by a local mother and daughter, Anna Gallagher 28, and Margaret Doherty 63, who were killed instantly in the accident. Broderick suffered a fractured leg, fractured ribs, a concussion, and a collapsed lung. Grey received minor injuries, including severe whiplash. Broderick told authorities he had no recollection of the crash and did not know why he was in the wrong lane. "I don't remember the day. I don't remember even getting up in the morning. I don't remember making my bed. What I first remember is waking up in the hospital, with a very strange feeling going on in my leg," he said at the time. Broderick was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced up to five years in prison, but was later convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving and fined $175,[18][19][20][21] which the victims' family called "a travesty of justice." Martin Doherty, whose sister and mother were killed in the crash, later stated that he forgave Broderick, amid plans to meet with Broderick in 2003, in order to gain a sense of closure. As of August 2013, the meeting has not taken place.[22]

I've never heard of the incident either. Jennifer Grey was in the car too with Matthew.

The weird thing about back in the day is how hard it was for some actors to survive from one decade to another..espeically from the 80's to the 90's. It's so weird that the majority of the young actors from the 80's could not keep up with their careers in the 90's. Most of the Brat Pack disappeared besides Demi Moore. Or any comedic actor like a Guttenberg or even Michael Keaton (until recently). So strange.

Now those transitions are more seamless and less obvious since the 2000's. An actor like Hugh Jackman has been Wolverine since 2000 and we wouldn't flinch, thinking it was a long time (when it is). It does help that actors now are aging more gracefully due to dieting and dare I say, enhancements.

I remember Tara Reid being cited as the next "It Girl" around the time of the American Pie movies and Josie and the Pussycats. Then life happened to her.

Similar thing with Lindsey Lohan, around the time of Mean Girls, she was cited as a bright young actress that would redefine what young actresses could accomplish. She did do that, but in a way that nobody really wanted.

Emmy Rossum was supposed to be the next big thing after she was discovered in Phantom of the Opera, but her career since then has been kind of mild, though she remains a talented and normal person.

Adrien Brody never really built upon his career after his Oscar win. Ditto for Cuba Gooding Jr.

True. Emmy is still young enough where she can still catch on. And she has 'Shame' still but post-Shame, I don't know where her career will be going.

And Adrien Brody's career went off the rails for NO REASON. Even after Splice, Predators, and that one high school movie he did, he still lost that momentum.

I think it all can be linked back to this outfit.

What about Collin Farrell? I know he is still acting but he has been mostly just in bad remakes lately, he use to be like the next hunky actor but his attitude messed that up. He played a really good bullseye though in Daredevil though, but besides that not really lived up to the hype.

Another would be Sam Worthington, he came crashing on the scene in Terminator Salvation then HUGE with Avatar and then poof nothing of great importance.

Worthington has one of the worst American accents ever.

That's not a bad one to bring up, actually. It's not that Colin is starving to death right now, but for a brief, shining moment he was the biggest star on the planet and the second coming of Tom Cruise, then nothing happened to measure up to that expectation.

That's crazy right there!

Touché. Or should I say *****é because that's how he looks?:o

That's not how a *****e looks. That's how a normal person looks, if they are standing at the centre of a circle of *****es, who then spontaneously combust one at a time, covering the normal person in the slimy shrapnel-like remains of 24 *****es. A *****e collage, if you will. A Jackson Pollock *****e. Abstract *****pressionism.

Holy crap. :wow: I had no idea.

Worthington has one of the worst American accents ever.

Indeed. And no facial expression. Or charisma. Or presence. Or discernible talent of any kind. If you can't tell - Geez, I hate Sam Worthington.

Anyway - What happened to Freddie Prinze Jr?

He just was in Saving Mr. Banks and he was great in it. Probably the best performance I've seen from him since "In Bruges", and it's a shame that it's getting overlooked.

You could say Taylor Kitsch and Sam Worthington, but then again it was like Hollywood was forcing them on us for a while. Channing Tatum kind of emerged as the last man standing in that department.

Johnny Depp seems to have cooled off a lot. He's still an A-lister, and he certainly hasn't fallen into obscurity, but the last couple of movies he's starred in have pretty much tanked at the box office.

Elijah Wood was this popular child star who churned out a bazillion movies a year, was in stuff like Deep Impact, then did The Lord of the freaking Rings, and then....kind of disappeared.

Odd career trajectory there.
