If the director didn't intend it, why is it his fault and the films fault if people are over thinking it and misinterpreting it?

If the film didn't intend these things, is it fair to knock it based on your expectations due to other peoples misinterpretations?

Baring in mind i haven't seen this yet, i'm just curious as to the though process behind these criticisms.

I just find it ironic that the thing most praised aspect of the film is something that the director actively expresses his disagreement with.

The movie is slick and a lot reviews seem taken in by that but...I don't know that's just not what I look to horror films for. Most of the best horror films started out as down and dirty affairs, made often by near amateurs.

The makers of this film certainly know how to use a camera and they've carefully studied John Carpenter but I found it rather empty beyond that.

As I've said before, there are aspects I like but I am a bit baffled by the love.

I don't doubt people are sincere though. More power to them.

Name a better movie that will get kids to start practicing abstinence.

I think the sexual allegory in the movie would likely fly past most kids' heads. And are you suggesting that kids under 18 should actually see this movie?? I think there are probably lots of better ways to educate kids of the consequences of illicit sex, instead of through an R-rated horror movie that really took advantage of its rating to show nudity and other things that kids (under 18) should really not see until they're mature enough to handle it....

^ I should've realized that, was just momentarily too dumb when I wrote that post but I see it now. It's always harder to see humor on the Internet.

I've been seeing raves for the soundtrack btw but personally I just couldn't stand it. I suppose it works well on its own, but in the movie it was just way too loud and I generally hate it in movies when any music cue is basically telling you (as a viewer) what to feel emotionally, especially in horror movies because they always have that creepy musical stinger. Although Carpenter's theme for Halloween was somewhat similar, it was also way more subtle and didn't have the musical melodrama that this movie did.

This was great... loved the setting, the atmosphere, and the acting; those kids were wonderful. I liked that it was 'spiritual' but slightly grounded.

Also, the music was outstanding. Best score since last year's The Guest/Under The Skin.

Plus, that school-window scene was a perfect Halloween nod.

The film had atmosphere, suspense and continuous feeling of dread.These are things often lacking in many modern horror films which over rely on gory or jump scares.

Did Jay have sex with those guys on the boat?

It's kinda weird. I try to justify it with my thnking of 'He just wants the older sister because it's more of a challenge.'

The concept and the 'it' were great. If this was a studio film rather than indie it would probably be turned into a franchise similar to final destination.

I don't mind a slow burn movie but this film could of lost about ten minutes and been all the better for it.

I give it 7/10
Also, I also like the setting of Detoit. The Fall season creating that unique look that resembles 'Halloween'. the leaves on the streets in the neighborhood, etc.

I don't know why they don't set more horror films in Detroit as it seems like a fantastic setting for these types of films

Really good horror movie, really tense in some scenes and the monster was great and I really liked the whole concept.

Monroe was great again and the rest of the cast were really good also, loved the first scene inJay's house with the monster and then the beach scene was really good well.

8/10.

Yeah, she's very underrated and has popped up in a lot of great roles.

I agree with Babadook. THAT was an outstanding film.

I watched It Follows recently. Honestly, aside from one or two moments, I thought this movie was really boring and awkward. I'm actually very surprised with the praise it's gotten.

I could see where some might see it boring in spots, but the directing and style keep it from being that.

But, like Halloween... I'll take slow-burn thrillers over the slash-blood-fests/possession crap that have zero style or character.
