I was listening to the 'crawl space' podcast and they were going on about garfield being 6'0 and how that is too tall and it would be hard to make villians look like they tower over him and that he would make his supporting cast look short

official marvel handbook - spider-man/peter parker = 5'10

so garfield is a 'whooping' TWO INCHES taller than the comic creation...

OOOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!

OOOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!

Tell anyone who complains that the guy playing Spiderman is two inches taller than the character to check Hugh Jackman's height against Wolverine... and then come back here and justify their complaint...

There are some new pictures of Andrew on the net from the Never Let Me Go premiere. Here's one of them:

Am I the only one who thinks he's perfect for the role? :P

You realize this was a good five years ago, right?

Yeah but it was just an example of how over the place Tobey's physique was between 2002-2007.

One moment he might look dangerously skinny verging on anorexia next he look so big he could rival Peter Griffin.

I think that because Garfield is so tall with a thin, lean body he will never look too overweight imo.

And yeah, Garfield seems perfect for the role but he's going to be stuttering like hell in the interviews for Spider-Man.

...........So a gut means you're fat? HAve you seen him these days? He lost a ton of weight for Brothers. He a put a healthy amount of weight back on, but he is pretty much normal weight now. I just don't understand why people are calling him fat.

And even if he was indeed fat, what does that have to do with his ability to play Spiderman if when he was doing Spiderman he wasn't in any way shape or form overweight. I think it's silly to have this kind of demands of an actor. If you play a superhero, you have to ALWAYS be in shape. Once the work is over, that is it, the actor has every right to live his life the way he wants to. And well, people gain weight some times, it's nobody's business honestly. **** happens. What, are we gonna hold it against Cristopher Reeve that he got paralyzed after doing Superman!?

Look, I don't think Tobey Maguire was a perfect Spiderman by any means. But Andrew Garfield himself said it in that interview that there is no such thing as a perfect version Spiderman since he means so much to so many people. What you have to take in account is if Tobey Maguire's work with this character, overall, had a positive or negative influence on the character's legacy. Given the success of the franchise, I think we can all agree that it was a very positive influence, since Spiderman is just as popular and well received as he ever was.

And yeah, Garfield seems perfect for the role but he's going to be stuttering like hell in the interviews for Spider-Man.

1. You don't know that and 2. So *****ing what? If he doesn't stutter when delivering his lines, why is it such a big deal that he's not as schmaltzy and polished as the rest of Hollywood? I don't know anybody that would go to a movie because the actor promoting it was so eloquent in his interviews. Not to say that eloquence is not important, but I'd take talent and humility over marketing skills any day of the week.

That interview was mind-blowing. Something about Garfield sounds...genuine. Most actors sound full of **** and they usually are but Garfield's answers sound like real answers. They're pretty cool.

Geeks want Spidey to be the underdog, and a guy that's over 6 feet doesn't appear to be that to some people.

Like their is a height restriction on people who get bullied? :whatever:

He talks about Spider-Man yet again in this interview: http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/0...ver-let-me-go-and-his-approach-to-spider-man/

and a new pic:

It's not gotten to the point where every time i see a pic of him, it makes me smile, and every time i read his words I laugh with glee.

Particularly loved his mention of his mom's homemade spidey outfit :D

It's not like Garfield's the tallest guy in existence. It all depends on how he is presented next to his fellow cast members.

Just saw this on Google. Don't know if it was already posted.

Of course you'd jump to defend Tobey at any turn. The point is the man had his moments in between the films where he looked anything but capable of kicking your ass and more like he was going to eat your face off.

Well, it's a good thing he's not actually Spider-Man, then. Just, you know, an ACTOR playing a part.

Indeed, I'm currently 6'6 and I was bullied relentlessly in Primary and High School. If you think tall people don't get bullied you should read up on little dog syndrome.

I still love Tobey (he's was perfect for the era of comic book movie making that he was hired in) but wow Garfield looks good.

Every time I watch even the tiniest bit of Spiderman 3, I hate him.

And then I go back and watch bits of Spiderman 2, and I love him again.

That third movie just irreversibly damaged my opinion of him. I used to love him as an actor, especially in The Cider House Rules and even Pleasantville.

But ever time I picture it... the crotch pumping.... god!

Andrew Garfield, please do not ever let them do that to you! If they ask you to dance like a complete idiot, refuse.

For anyone who isn't watching, Andrew Garfield is presenting right now at the VMAs.

I'd disagree, Hopeful.

I'd say Downey Jr. Is a better Casting for his character.
