Bay Announces Transformers 3 to be Released in 2011

Autobots.jpg

"Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you.

Pain and Gain is right after shooting of Trans 3.

Not only did Bay succumb to Paramounts greed to chuck out another one of these quickly but he couldn't resist throwing a jab at Megan Fox. For a second I thought Bay was being classy. This will be filmed before "Pain and Gain", didn't bay want a "break" from the series for a second to recollect guess the mighty dollar always triumphs.

But on a serious note so much for a good third Transformers movie. This thing is only being written by Ehren Kruger and Michael Bay. They best bring in better writers for rewrites otherwise I don't see much of a future at least for a worthwhile story or developing these otherwise cardboard characters (this now includes the bots).

Oh god... With them as the writers, and with little time till the release date, its going to be another cluster of FAIL like ROTF was. They should name it T3:LMAO.

Btw, I recently watched Star Trek and it was glorious. Why didnt Orci and Kurtzman do such a good job for ROTF?

Three words. Bay and Kruger.

In their (Orci and Kurtzman) many interviews with Seibertron.com they said their script was changed around so much that the final product was pretty different from what they had originally wrote. The story was pretty much the same (which was pretty weak but more changes were made that didn't help things)

The one they mentioned was the inclusion of the Twins at Bay/Krugers behest. Which removed much of Sideswipe time and the complete deletion of Sunstreaker.

In the end we got a bunch of useless bots just wandering the screen helplessly due to the mentality of "more=better" instead of adding two more new bots and giving all of them a share fair of screen time.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Not all that optimistic about this news, I was hoping Bay would take his break and chisel out a solid story and script in the mean time, I fear we're looking at another rush job.

I don't get it, lots of people were complaining after the first one, "MORE ROBOTS! WE WANT (insert very long list of Transformers here) FOR THE NEXT FILM!!!" Then, when we get a bunch of bots added, they complain, "TOO MANY ROBOTS!! WHAT WAS BAY THINKING?!?!" Which is it?

I sure wasn't one of those people. So lets not generalize.

I prefer for them to develop the ones we have and maybe add 1 or 2 more recruits so you don't over saturate the audiences with bots galore to only have them parading for a couple of seconds to perform meandering task (Bolt, Arcee, Sideswipe).

But thats clearly not the mentality the people behind this franchise have.

I really hope this doesn't out-stupid the last one.

Who am I kidding, though? It's Bay. He doesn't give a **** about me. This is going to suck.

Oh lord. Bay, you're going up against several Marvel heavyweights, a crucial new DC franchise, Harry Potter, and the return of Jack Sparrow within the same summer.

Please consider a summer 2012 release. For Paramount's benefit and yours.

Seriously could that summer get anymore crowded than it already is?

Happy it is coming so soon but worried about the story, ROTF definately suffered in the story department compared to the first movie, and Kruger writing on his own does worry me.

But you never know, just hope Kruger writes a great script and we get a great 3rd movie.

In Bay's defense, he still has much more time to develop this one than he did with Revenge of the Fallen.

More than likely, they won't start shooting until February or March of next year. From now until then, it's all about development, which is a pretty good 5 months.

At least, he doesn't start shooting without a script like he did last time.

Earle,

Star Trek was great because of the cast and JJ, not Orci and Kurtzman. If your really pay attention to that script, it's not even good. It relays way too much on coincidences to get those characters together.

I like the film a lot but the script is the absolute worst part of it.

My god! So the writers of Star Trek managed to make a script made by Bay even worse? What is this... i dont even...

The problem wasnt the number of robots. It was that they were part of the background, with only the Twins, Prime, Meg and the Fallen actually doing anything.

Maybe its about time Bay fails. It might kill the franchise but only for so long. The franchise is a goose that makes golden eggs. Even without a script they made a huge success. Its time someone who is not ******ed took over.

The script was very good IMHO. Coincidences? Well you must have not seen the dark knight which was hailed by critics and the audience and made a billion dollars. They re movies, they shouldnt be bogged down with too much realism anyway.

I wish JJ directed the Transformers movies, they would rock. How is it that a movie about some soldiers, and another one about a spaceship were better than 2 movies with huge alien transforming robots fighting on earth? TF as a franchise has a lot more potential than the aforementioned ones if you ask me. Certainly from GiJoe.

Well, to be fair, Paramount/Dreamworks staked out the release date for TF-3 before ROTF was even complete. But still, it's going to be a packed summer -- but at least there will be plenty of movies for moviegoers to pick. It's like 2007 all over again.

So what movies are due for a summer 2011 release? Captain America, Harry Potter and Green Lantern?

True, I just hope Transformers manages to break the mold of comic book movie franchises and we have a third movie that outdoes the first 2, you never know, it could happen.

Either way, I hope TF3 is successful, because lets face it, this will be Bay's last TF movie, so who knows were the franchise could go once someone else takes over.

For now, I will expect from TF3 what I got from the 1st 2 movies, great entertainment, anything extra in the 3rd movie will be a bonus.

How do you know that it will be Bay's last movie?
Why do people in here always assume that directors can only do 3 movies of a certain franchise? Is it a law of physics or something?

Earle,

Transformers has potential if you have a 400 million dollar budget. I keep saying this but a real live action transformers film is pretty impossible if the bots are the stars the human are truly secondary.

Just too expensive. Not excuse Bay for what happened in Revenge of the Fallen but I can understand why he has to pick and choose his spots when it comes to fully utilizing the bots in the films.

And the Star Trek script would've been better had they just come up with a natural way for the characters to get together. I mean, did Spock really have to program the Kobayoshi Maru during the time when Kirk was the first to beat? Did Kirk really have to end up on the same planet where Old Spock and Scotty just happen to be at?

Again, it's a much, much better film than it should've been. But, there are just way too many parts where the coming together of the characters was too coincidental for my liking. The Dark Knight didn't nearly have as much as you're saying.

My biggest concern is just them rushing it out because I do think that ROTF was hurt in part by their determination to get it out this year. On the the upside, they wont have a writers' strike to contend with though. We'll see.

I still think they should've taken the extra year to write a better story and have a clear summer.

So what movies are due for a summer 2011 release? Captain America, Harry Potter and Green Lantern?

That's not the only ones. There's Spider-Man 4, POTC 4, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Cars 2. While the last two aren't much of a threat, the former two are.

The summer of 2011 will be renamed the biggest cluster**** Hollywood has ever seen.

Some of these movies will be forced to be shown in 2012. Let me start off by saying that TF probably won't be the one either, as studios look at numbers to base their opinion of "success" so a lot them will shake in terror and just move their movie as to not get stomped out by the competition.

Doesn't mean this rushed colossi of a movie will be good.

I can see Thor, Captain America and POTC 4 being moved to summer 2012. Warners isn't going to risk fans' wraths again if they move the final HP movie off for another year (not to mention they began filming this February), and Sony isn't going to budge on their May 2011 date for Spider-Man 4.
