Age of Extinction Its Official Transformers 3 set for 2011!

Spielberg needs to bash Bay round the head with a teaching stick.

Listen, I think the whole production was just in a bad spot with that strike. It just didn't help matters but Paramount and Dreamworks wanted to strike while the iron was hot even though they knew the strike was coming.

It was a bad perfect storm...

...and yet, I'd say 50% of that film works mainly because of Bay being able to piece something together with the speed of his production. You at least have to give him credit for that.

At least with this third, there is no excuse to make it a lot better than Revenge of the Fallen. They've essentially got 20 months to finish this thing. More time than they had on Revenge of the Fallen and with no strike.

I'm almost willing to bet that had the strike not happen, they would've caught a lot of the plot mistakes and streamlined the thing...which, if you look at it now, it would've been relatively easy.

Was it the strike's fault that he downplayed better Transformers and instead focused on 2 white trash Transformers? I give him credit for being a good action director and being able to piece a movie together in short time, but my main problem is the immature and crude humor and downright ******ed characterization of the humans and Transformers.

I'm curious what Kurtzman and Orci's script was like before Krueger came aboard.

It's not the plot mistakes that annoy me. It's every single character in the film apart from Optimus, Bumblee, Starscream and Megatron.

I mean when Sam's mum got "stoned" (stoned people do not act like that) I wanted to tear my teeth out of my head.

Exactly. Like I said, it's like Bay is a ADHD suffering teenager in a 40 year olds body.

The real shame is, people actually think that stuff is funny or cool. I can imagine those "bro" *****ebags like "Hey bro, that was soooo extreme!!" "Yea bro, that part where the robot starts humping that hot chicks leg was just totally bad ass...bro!"

Egghh.

Nathan,

Not really going to disagree there. I mean, if you take out the Twins and replace them with Sideswipe on Sam's mission with Simmons, the whole second part of the film gets better by a factor of ten.

Still, the plot could've been streamlined even more in the script phase had they not created two pieces to the Allspark and not screw up the details of the Allsparks's power.

It can level Megatron in the first film but a small piece can bring him back to life? Really? Not to even mention, one small piece couldn't give the Decepticons the info they need on the Matrix of Leadership? Really?

I mean, I know how I would've done it(scriptwise)...it's somewhat inferred in the film but that's not enough.

Personally, I thought some of it was funny but it was over the top for essentially what was a kid's movie.

That's why I'm curious about the commentary on the DVD. Will Bay admit mistakes? He admitted a few on the commentary on the first film.

I think i understand what they were going for there though.

Perhaps the full Allspark is so powerful it overloads Megatron, makes him fry.

Some of the humor in the first Movie was sometimes too much, like Bumblebee peeing on Simmon's, that wasn't really needed. But overall, the movie had the appropriate level. They should've kept it like that.

Ace,

True, it does overload him. But, a small piece shouldn't be able to bring him back. And if that is the case, why can't it happen to Optimus? I mean, if you ask me, Megatron's death in the first film was worse, in terms of damage, than Prime's.

I mean, they destroyed a small decepticon to give Megatron parts underwater. Why not take that same Decepticon's energy center (The one Prime destroyed when he killed the Fallen...like the one Jetfire takes out of his body) and just give that to Megatron to resurrect him.

I mean, at least with that, it doesn't make the whole details around the power of the Allspark muddled.

That doesn't really work like that. The Spark is essentially a Transformer's soul and essence. You can't just put it into another Transfomer and hope he'll be working fine again.

See, never really explained in the films..hence the reason I brought it up.

Nathan,

I have this theory and see if you agree. Do you think the jumping off point for Sam's story in Revenge of the Fallen should've been his actions at the end of the first film instead of the little piece he finds at the beginning?

I mean, to eliminate the two shards that do cause a problem in the script, why didn't writers just go with the idea that because of Sam's close proximity to the energy of the Allspark when he killed Megatron, that moment is what should've implanted the symbols into his head.

And then for the next two years, the Autobots have been secretly trying to help Sam to get them out while keeping a low profile so the Decepitcons wouldn't catch on. Add in the Pretender spying on Sam even before he hits college and you've streamlined the film by fifteen minutes already.

That second piece of the Allspark bothers me in the script a lot.

That would've worked better. It was just all too weird. When was Sam on the Decepticon's radar? How come the Pretender was enrolled in college way before Sam?

Nathan,

See, the way Prime reacted when Sam went to destroy Megatron, it infers that Prime knows that some lasting affect would happen to Sam.

I just would've played off of that for the sequel instead of what they did. With that, you have Prime knowing that Sam is in danger and you have Megatron knowing or being told by the Fallen that Sam is the key to saving their race.

Either way, the plot jumping off point happens at the end of the first film instead of how it is done now.

The Pretender is a good idea. But, it doesn't make sense. It would've made sense if the Fallen or Soundwave had been monitoring the whole situation and then sending Alice to spy on Sam. And instead of it being at college, hell, just have Alice move into the same neighborhood. It's pretty clear the film takes place two years later, meaning same still had to finish school. Alice was just a girl who moved into the same neighborhood and was friends with same within those two years.

Simple crap.

By the way, where the hell is the Fallen stationed at in the movie?

These are the script mistakes that must be avoided in the third film at all cost....

I actually feel ROTF has the best storyline this year...

only part i dont buy is when Jetfire teleports them to the desert. Surely theres a better way, just seems too carelessly written that part

In Transformers 3, i wanna see some Dinobot action

I think it was supposed to be the Nemesis ship that was stranded on some planet. I think some of that stuff was explained in the prequel comics. Which was an idiotic idea. You shouldn't make a movie where it's a requirement that you've read the prequel comics to understand it all.

Nathan,

Yeah, that's dumb.

And I would agree with some finesse, Revenge of the Fallen had a much better storyline than the first. It just needed some serious streamlining...

Not sure if I want to see the Dinobots in the sequel. I'd much prefer to see Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, Galvatron, and Unicron than the Dinobots.

I am curious if they'll do Primus though.

I hope they don't do the Galvatron bit. Just because Megatron has been enhanced, he suddenly needs a name change? Always thought that was stupid.

Actually, I was thinking of having Galvatron be a totally different person. Overthrows Megatron or something.

If we need someone to overthrow Megatron, make it Starscream.

Well, is Constructicon Devastator dead? If he isnt, Transformers 3 could have the Dinobots take him down. It will also show how a Transformer is created. Like show the autobots insert a spark into a Dinosaur machine of some sort i dunno...

Im sure Michael Bay will bang loads of stuff into it anyway...
