It's snowed in Cairo for the first time in 112 years

It got a light dusting. Close enough?

No, Obama strikes again.

Thanks a lot Obama!

If your town hadn't seen snow in over 10 decades a light dusting might as well be the end of the world.

especially those wimps South of me :hehe: seen my share of states going into panic if they get a inch of snow. I get several feet of that crap here in Ohio and learn to deal with it

Florida is so stupid it doesn't even know it's supposed to be WINTER!!!

I love when an entire city shuts down because of snow. We get -67 Fahrenheit here with snow and people are still outside going for walks and running :funny:

Up here in Canada Toronto is like that. They get a foot of snow and they shut it all down. In eastern Canada we get five feet of snow and we just grumble and get back to shoveling.

It's also funny when people laugh at other parts of the world having to deal with conditions they don't see but once in a century like they should be prepared for it.

It'll be a real laugh when you're dealing with your own freak natural disaster that no one there was prepared for, even though they should be.

Although I'll give you this, if you live in a place with a history of something (earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc) but they don't occur too often, you're still dumb for not being prepared.

Touché

I've always wondered that with Oklahoma. The people live in a state that gets riddled with tornadoes every summer, but yet a lot (majority maybe?) don't have underground shelters.

Nor do all of them even have insurance to cover it. I know when I lived in Missouri we had a basement at least to hide inside. Tornadoes are frequent enough there people took precautions. In Oklahoma it's a given you're going to be hit at least once a year.

Growing up in PA and moving to FL I know exactly what you mean. It's funny watching it drop below 60 and everyone get out their winter attire, while I'm still in short sleeves.

It's like the George Carlin standup segment Natural Disasters. I can in no way link to it because it's George but it's amazing and one of my favorite bits from anyone. He talks about the fact that people will stay in the same place and do the same thing every year and not take precautions about it.

I was out in short sleeves today with 50° temperatures today. Cold but not enough to put my coat on.

It's around -20 Celsius today + windchill and some snow. It's a wee bit cold here.

No, actually this probably is an effect of global warming. Raising the planet's overall temperature will cause unusual localized temperature fluctuations, both up and down.

Lately a number of scientists have been saying to expect weather to start staying like this and getting colder as the years go on. They were basically saying that we are heading into an eventual ice age and by eventual, not thousands of years from now, but a lot sooner.
