I mean, I'm not sure of everything Carlin said about Religion. It's been a while since I've listened to his stand-up...but Maher made up a ton of crap in Religuous to support his arguments. If they believe what they say, that God chooses his vicar, then they shouldn't elect based on age. If he is fifty and is pope for thirty years then God willed it. Of course I'm not foolish enough to think any of these cardinals believe God picks the Pope. Its all politics and palm greasing in that conclave. They don't want to commit to anyone for too long, but it is a mistake. The Church needs stability not change ups every 5 years.

The reason they don't do that is because if he sucks they are stuck with him for 30-40 years.

Though I think Ratzinger's precedent of retiring is going to become a routine now.
