Since I'm sure some of you have already been getting gifts, I've been wondering, is it really "the thought that counts"? People seem to use that phrase as a write-off for really sh---y gift ideas. Okay, yeah, thanks for getting me something and all, but seriously what made you think I'd like or want this?
Case in point: There have been a ton of girls this year getting me gifts, almost all of them a) bake me something (like a cake, cookies, muffins, whatever) or if they can't do that they will b) buy me something sweet. Now most of these women -- in fact all of them -- know how I'm Mr. Gymrat and doesn't really ever let himself fall off the wagon, unless he has too. So I'll open up the gift, and I imagine I thank they graciously, but I can imagine they detect some disappointment because they've all said "promise me you'll eat just one". You baked me, like fifteen, should I start the "starving kids in Africa" speech.
Now with most of my gifts, I have some that don't have much thought put into them, but I tend to take the person into consideration. Chocolates for girls, and some guys, in most cases. Most of the guys, however, are getting like Coffee, a funny T-shirt, or something like that. I certainly though wouldn't get a friend of mine from the gym a massive box of chocolates or baked goods...because I know exactly where they are going.
So is it really "The Thought that Counts" or should there be actual thought put into your gifts.
