Since I'm sure some of you have already been getting gifts, I've been wondering, is it really "the thought that counts"? People seem to use that phrase as a write-off for really sh---y gift ideas. Okay, yeah, thanks for getting me something and all, but seriously what made you think I'd like or want this?

Case in point: There have been a ton of girls this year getting me gifts, almost all of them a) bake me something (like a cake, cookies, muffins, whatever) or if they can't do that they will b) buy me something sweet. Now most of these women -- in fact all of them -- know how I'm Mr. Gymrat and doesn't really ever let himself fall off the wagon, unless he has too. So I'll open up the gift, and I imagine I thank they graciously, but I can imagine they detect some disappointment because they've all said "promise me you'll eat just one". You baked me, like fifteen, should I start the "starving kids in Africa" speech.

Now with most of my gifts, I have some that don't have much thought put into them, but I tend to take the person into consideration. Chocolates for girls, and some guys, in most cases. Most of the guys, however, are getting like Coffee, a funny T-shirt, or something like that. I certainly though wouldn't get a friend of mine from the gym a massive box of chocolates or baked goods...because I know exactly where they are going.

So is it really "The Thought that Counts" or should there be actual thought put into your gifts.

Could always donate the baked goods to a soup kitchen or something :)

I usually do put some thought on presents but when I have no clue what to get I give them a few hundred dollars in cash then they can buy whatever they want

Christmas isn't about the presents. We can't have everything we want.

Well. more thoughtful gifts would be nice but we should just be happy to get a gift at all. People like to give out a lot of gifts because it makes them feel good, even if they're not really that close to the person receiving the gift.

So if my uncle who I hardly see gets me an Alabama shirt (even though I don't care for college football) I won't complain because I'm sure he feels good for doing it.

And bro, if chicks were bringing me cookies I'd be stoked. **** a diet. :oldrazz:

I think you should just thank your mom and your sister for putting some effort in making you some tasty desserts. :cmad:

If my mom gets me baked goods she's getting a boot up her a--, I bought her a f---ing Flatscreen for Christ's sake.

i'm a 'good gift or no gift' type of person.

if someone gives me something crap, i'll give it back to the straight off.

i'm not fond of the idea of taking a crap gift from someone in order to make them feel good about at least trying. It's just a waste of money at the end of the day regardless.

The thought does mean a lot to me at least. I get a lot of gifts like pajamas or socks. It meant a lot when I got this for Christmas not that I needed new ones or asked, but that friends knew how much I loved them.

you mother****ing premadonna. eat a ****ing cookie for chrissakes!!

Spoons: Merry Christmas baby. I didn't get you anything, but I thought about it. :)
Pickles: You're such a sweetie

Well don't worry about finding a gift for me. Just go ahead and send me the cash. It'll be fine. ;)

Haha. I'd never just get her nothing. But if I did get her a gift she didn't like, I'm sure she'd take it and put it under her bed or something.

You can't have everything after all where would you put it?

I hate getting gifts that I don't like even if there's good thought in it. I hate returning things to a store after Christmas, which you almost always have to do in order to still be able to return it. And then I usually wind up getting store credit. Thanks Aunt Wendy I wonder how I will use my 40 dollar Belk store credit now...

I won't say it, I won't...
