How do I back up iTunes? I went to the itunes site and went to the support page and did what it said. But when I go to file then to Libray I don't get Back up to Disc option. I only get Organize Libray, Export Libray, Import Playlist and Export Playlist. Thanks for any help.

never like i tune and i've always deleted it from my computer ever since it's been in existence
but recently i bought this ipad 2 (just "cause i thought it might be the right format to download thousand of comic books and because i have no choice but to go digital)
I have no more place to put comics anymore but in a computer and an ipad of "62 gig" ,even though not enough might do the trick for the time behind,
its flat and more manageble than a laptop.

but much to my surprise i had to go and download itune and while doing it
they downloaded hundreds of crappy song in my i pad
and for a while all i could do is unwillingly downloading song
WTF would i buy an ipad to listen to music
i have a freaking radio in my Jeep wrangler, in my workplace i listen to music almost all day long and one of my relative is a jay z wanna be and because of that i have to listen to all the crap that he shoves down my eardrums

I finally figure out how to copy comic book folders to my ipad
but now everytime i try to "download" more of it ,it automatically erase the previous ones.
WTF... this really gets on my nerves specially that its takes a little time to "sync" it
unless i sync everything at once i thought which would take hours,.. NO
there must be some other ways, so I put aside my stubbornness and i went on you tube to get some tips, finally
i still haven't try them yet !
anyways i can't wait to give **** to itune if they charge me for all the song i delectably deleted from my ipad

and if the tips to add more pictures that i got from "you tube"dudes doesn't work i will go back to "best buy" and get a full refund of over 900 bucks that i had to pay for this waste of time

beside two years ago i bought an HP laptop that cost me around two thousand dollars.
it was powerfull indeed except for the graphic card that couldn't handle 3D max and other programs like that
and I bought this specially to work with 3D program like that.

so i went back to get a refund. one of the manager there seem to be reluctant into giving me back my money untill i gave him my incredible hulk face lol.

and i thought writing a letter to HP, to give them **** for for assembling such a beautiful laptop of 19 an a half inch screen with such a weak graphic card because the "dual core processor" couldn't handle 3D max, and the best buy guy try to tell me otherwise
what a waste .

Are you running it on a Mac or Windows based machine?

I assume Windows, because there is a mac support thread.

Easiest and most direct way, go to My Music > iTunes...grab that folder and back it up to your external hard drive simply by dragging and dropping.

That's it. Easy, simple, straight forward. It will get everything, music, movies, apps, the reference files that know your playlists and entire library.

Unless...your music lives elsewhere or in multiple locations, but this would mean that you moved something at some point. So you would be the only one that knows where it is.

That's what I do on my Windows machine.

^ is that the process you want to go through when you get a new computer as well? I just got a new Mac Book and was trying to figure out how I'm going ot get all my music off of my old PC.

You should just be able to copy the folder onto the new PC, and the next time you open iTunes it recognizes and loads it.

I've had an issue doing that before, so what I usually do is have iTunes import the backup folder, and create the new working folder from scratch. Takes longer because it has to copy everything, but I've had fewer issues.

Been awhile since I've done it, so maybe the new versions of iTunes don't have the problems I've run into. And I could have just been screwing something up and not realized it.

If you're going from a windows machine to a mac, yes, but...there is a little more involved.

First make sure your ext HD is formatted so you can both write and read to it from your windows machine. Your mac should be able to only read from it, meaning you should be able to pull your itunes folder from it and drop it onto your mac without issue, but you won't be able to write onto it.

The but part, I believe the file on windows for iTunes is a XML file, you will need to export this file from iTunes then import that file onto your new mac into iTunes, this file I speak of is the one that remembers your playlists, star rating, and all of the content in your iTunes library, it does not save the files, it just remembers them. If that doesn't work, you will just need to export your playlist(s) then import onto your mac. I haven't done the process in a while but you can look up how to do it online easily.

If you don't care about all of your playlists, et cetera and just want your content, then yes, all you do is drag the iTunes folder onto your ext HD then drag it onto your new mac.

For the most part, if done correctly, it works just fine.

Don't forget there is a mac user support forum.

But yes, although, iTunes is only capable of pulling songs that were purchased from the iTunesstore. But yes, you can also sync your contact/address book, calendar and photos and then pull them off on your other computer.

On a mac you use iphoto or image capture to pull off your photos, not iTunes, but it will only pull photos off that are in the camera roll.

There might be an issue changing computers with your phone. Usually when you plug into a new computer, even if logged in as your account, it asks to wipe your phone. And if you don't, it won't let you manage the phone from iTunes.

There is some trickery you can do to a pair of xml and binary files to trick the computer into thinking the phone is registered to it. I was able to make the change on my Mac, so it stopped trying to wipe my phone. Never could get it to work with my pc laptop though.

Yes, but you can back it up first and should be able to sync your address book, contacts, email accounts and notes.

On top of that, you can stop the sync and tell the phone to first "transfer purchases from ipod/iphone."

Knew about the first (if you don't mind waiting for everything to be reinstalled/copied.

The second is new to me.

Just depends on how much data you have.

I have my moments.

I don't have a external hard drive right now but thanks for the info, this seem the easy way to do it. The thing about the iTunes support was that nothing was of any help.

On a side note what is the Cloud thing apple is doing?

Basically they'll give you 5GB a free space on their servers to use as sort of an external hard drive on the internet.

But it also allows you to automatically sync your content and information like email and contacts between all your devices (computers, phones, touches, laptops).

So let's say you add an contact to your email on your laptop. That contact will automatically sync over the internet onto your phone. And that app you bought on your phone, will show up in iTunes on your computer.

Plus, none of the stuff you purchase from iTunes counts against your iCloud space. And if you need more space, you can make monthly payments.

In addition to, two new features that weren't around with mobileme.

1. You can now easily sync/download your entire itunes purchases anywhere at any time.

2. You can also pay $25 a year, and itunes will scan your entire itunes library regardless of where your content was purchased and give you access to stream a 256kb [I think that's the bitrate] anytime you want.
