I doubt it is a closet gay situation as someone mentioned since I don't think anybody considering themselves gay would say that they 'failed' their parents. I am going to guess a drug related charge and he went to jail.

If he failed at something in academics, then I would say don't worry, keep trying. If he failed at keeping his d**k in his pants and it led to pregnancy, then I would say do the right thing (whatever that is). But honestly, I think whatever you failed at, it's not as big of a deal as you think it is. But please tell us when you can because I really want to know what it is.
