Jack Black in.....Gulliver's Travels

bleah, been remade time after time :down

I guess, for my generation, the Ted Danson miniseries is the definitive version to date. I haven't seen it in about 11 years, but I remember it was very good. Looking at the writing team, however, I'm not so confident that this one will stay true to the source material.

O'Dowd, Tate Join "Gulliver's Travels"

Former "Doctor Who" companion Catherine Tate and Irish funnyman Chris O'Dowd ("The IT Crowd," "The Boat that Rocked") have both been cast in the upcoming new take on "Gulliver's Travels" starring Jack Black.

Tate looks set to play the Queen of Lilliput opposite Black's Lemuel Gulliver according to MSN. Of her role she says she "can't believe it. It's a big, kick-off Hollywood film."

O’Dowd, appearing on the BBC's "Something For the Weekend", confirmed that he'll be playing the role of film’s principal villain Edward. His character is married to Emily Blunt's, and he's begun horseback riding training for the film.

Jason Segel ("I Love You, Man") also stars in the Rob Letterman directed film due for release in 2010.

Jason Segel's gpnna be in this? Thats cool. On IMDB he's listed as playing Horatio. Is that a big part or not?

Jason Segel should have been Gulliver.

I have to see this movie, just for Catherine Tate, irregardless of her small role. :o

Year One was pretty much the final nail in the "Jack Black might actually be kinda funny if he tries" coffin.

The problem with Black is that, School of Rock aside, he can't really carry a film. He's alright in supporting roles (High Fidelity, Tropic Thunder), but as a lead he doesn't come across as likable enough.

Welp, after seeing Jack Black in this...SKIP.

I know right. I remembered it after they mentioned the book in LIFE ON MARS and it was posted on Youtube. Firgured I'd watch a few scenes and I ended up wasting hours watching it.

Jack Black? You what's that? When you try way too hard to be funny and fail at it.

Still seeing this for Emily Blunt and Catherine Tate, I'd follow those two anywhere.

The best Gulliver movie was that wonderful 1930's cartoon. Who has seen it?

i'm rather fond of the old cartoon when Gulliver was the giant in Lilliput. Not faithful, but still entertaining.

Unless it's School of Rock or when he performs in Tenacious D, I'm weary of Jack Black. I will not pay to see this movie.

 Fleischer ftw!

And I was excited about this...until I saw Jack Black. I only almost liked him in Tropic Thunder.

Why all the hate for Jack Black?. Farley, who I'm a big fan of BTW, just fell on his face & yelled a lot & ppl still think he's comedy gold, yet Jack Black who apart from being funny co's he's fat, actually tries to branch out from his typical slapstick from time to time & gets **** for it. Doesn't make sense to me. I guess if Jack Black died after making Orange County, ppl would feel different. I've seen alot of Jack Black movies, Airborne, Cable Guy, orange County, Shallow Hal, Small part in Anchorman, School of Rock & King Kong, amoungst others & I've never had a problem with the guy. He yells alot which can be funny given the situation he's in. He's good at physical comedy, quite agile for a fat guy & he branches out from comedy from time to time. I see no problem. But opinions are like ass***** I guess
