Jack Tretton - "We gave GTA4 to get exclusive of the next big Rockstar franchise"

so if assains creedwould've been a ps3 exclusive. sonywould be making money on it? they'll be publishing the game instead of ubisoft?
Having a game exclusive on your console, doesnt mean you are the publisher. That isnt the case for the vast majority of 3rd party titles. Ubisoft would still be publisher, but the game would only be appearing on the PS3

What percent of game sales goes to the console company? Then what goes to the publisher and the developer?

so how would sony make money on it?

you said they make thier money on software since they lose money on thier consoles.

EVERY game console company makes money on software thats sold on their system regardless of if the game is 1st party; they just receive a bigger chunk if they make it themselves. I dont have the exact numbers but when a game is sold a percentage goes to the developer, publisher, console company, retailer, etc.. When it was exclusive for the PS2, Rockstar did not get all the money from the GTA games. No a cut of that went to Sony for "allowing" them to use their platform to sell the game. Thats how it goes for every 3rd party game out there.

Despite its high price, Sony does lose money for each PS3 they sell bc they sell it at a lower price than it costs to produce. Same goes for Microsoft and the 360. Once tey get the console out there and in a home, thats it. All they need then is for the software to sell and as that happens, they begin to recuperate the losses

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. if i was sony i'll say F that too.

now what aboutassasains creed, how much do you think its exclusivity could've gone for?

Probably pretty damn cheap considering that Ubi Soft WANTED it to be a Playstation 3 exclusive but Kutaragi just simply ignored them. And there were reports that Grand Theft Auto IV should have been a timed exclusive just like the others but Kutaragi treated Rockstar the same way.

Basically even though Assassin's Creed and Grand Theft Auto IV were always multiplatform titles despite what other people say, they should have been exclusive in some form but Kutaragi f**ked the Playstation 3 up the ass with his arrogance.

Rockstar's mysterious PS3-exclusive game may only fit on a Blu-ray disc.

While Rockstar Games was unwilling to go Sony-only for the next version of Grand Theft Auto, the company is apparently working on its "next great franchise," and it will be a PS3-exclusive. No details were offered on just what that franchise might be--or when it will be released--but according to Gamespot UK, it won't be LA Noire.

In explaining why Sony locked up the game, the article quotes SCEA's director of third-party relations, Michael Shorrock, who wrote on the official US PlayStation blog: "Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc, and this deal lets them do just that."

That's exciting news for PS3 fans. Of course, if the game is as great as Rockstar says it is, we might not see it until 2009 or 2010. By then, any AAA PS3 game will be so massive in scope that it won't fit on a DVD, only a Blu-ray disc. Maybe that's why Shorrock was saying that the mysterious franchise would only be playable on a PS3.

I agree with what you said, but I believe it's being reported that the PS3 is actually making a little money per console sold. After they found a way to cheapen BR diodes, and probably processor and graphics cards, I believe the price on parts shot way down, which helped give way to the price cut. I could be wrong tho, but if anyone remembers the link saying they were making profit per console now.

And you know this how? I haven't heard about that. Do you have a link?
