James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

But avatars sequels were in mind when Cameron was developing the first one. It was his plan from the get-go that he was going to make two more.

Unlike with the Pirates sequels and the matrix sequels, i doubt they had them in mind and just made them after the first films were a giant success.

i think the biggest problem with POTC 2,3 and Matrix 2,3 was that they were connected.

i know that right now someone is thinking '' they should make Avatar 2 and 3 together. it will be cheaper.'' no no no no no no
no cliffhangers. the sequel needs to have its own story.

we dont need a story that is long for 5 hours(2,5 x2). it drags. and when something drags people hate it.

Well my view is Avatar 1 and Pirates 1 were on the same Par for me.

The question isn't whether Pirates is on par with Avatar it's whether or not the people behind Avatar are better at making sequels then the people behind Pirates.

With James Cameron behind everything, all signs point to yes. Cameon has made a sequel to a movie that had no set up to one and worked as a stand-alone movie. Even if he didn't have a set up for Avatar 2 and 3 (which he claims he does), he would still probably come up with something amazing. The only reassurance in a sequel I really need is the fact that Cameron is willing to do it.

I agree that the sequels should not be connected. They need to be good as stand alone movies. If a series starts out with a strong stand alone movie then it should continue in that fashion. Pirates and Matrix were both strong stand alone movies and then they decided in the sequels to change the format and make two connected films. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I see the star wars films as stand alone movie, but there is always that underline connection that they all have with each other.

Now i am more willing to believe Cameron decided after it was a hit that he said why i had a trilogy planned all along. My feeling is like in Pirates lets go for it.

I myself wanna see a District 9 sequel yet feel Avatar doesn't need one but have been wrong before.

no, it was in while he was making it he wanted it to be like the Star Wars of the 70's/80's its going to expand more on the AVATAR verse and you will see how it can work, plus think about all the attention to detail for just one film? right.

Cameron said months before the movie was out that they had the sequels in mind.

Not true. Here's an article from summer of 2006 (even before Avatar was greenlit and they started filming) where Cameron mentions he has a trilogy in mind for both Avatar and Battle Angel Alita, depending on the success of the initial films.

Like I said before, Cameron has made sequels to self contained films that had no intention for a sequel in the past and they were amazing. Even if what you're saying is the case (which it isn't), it still doesn't matter because Cameron is the master of sequels. If he wants to do it then he will make it work.

Yep, It was Cameron's Pitch to FOX, back in what, 2004? that he wanted to make a space trilogy called Avatar.

Considering the gap between Terminator 1 and T-2 i would not get in line at the theator just yet.
I am just surprised if he didn't have a little bit of rust with his first film.

because T1 wasnt meant to have a squeal.

Cameron said in an interview that he didn't have Avatar planned as a trilogy where one big story is told over three films like The Lord Of The Rings. He had Avatar as one story and then some rough ideas for a sequel with its own story but it is still a continuation of the first film like Terminator and Terminator 2 I guess.

If Avatar does become a trilogy this will be Cameron's first threequel...I wonder how that will play out.

he will maybe do the sequel. but there is no way that he would do the third. maybe in 20 years. :hehe:

*sigh* well there goes any hope for Battle Angel. undoubtedly it'll soon to be picked up by (insert random hack director) *knocks on wood*

So the sequel is basically going to be the end of Avatar throughout? I don't think that is going to fly. People will be expecting a lot more story this time around.

he is f.... James Cameron. he made with Titanic 1.8 billion and now with Avatar 2 billion. why would he be under pressure? why would he be forced to do a movie for FOX? pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

hmm....I don't want Avatar 2 to be a war movie. I'd like it to stay in the Fantasy adventure area.
Sort of like LOTR, they had their great war scenes, but its not a war movie.

if he jumps in the sequel right away then i fear the worst. a director needs an artistic brake. and for this he needs to do a different movie. he needs to be in a different environment and he needs to work with different characters.

PERFECT reply, haha...another great GIF would've been Hans Landa laughing Bridget von Hammersmark from Inglorious Basterds.
