James Cameron's Sequel to "AVATAR"

Iron Man 3 can actually incorporate China into the story, tho. In what way can Cameron do that with Avatar 2 without going back to earth for some reason?

Chinese owned Company back on earth don't even have to show them, like the Japs in Aliens series (Weyland Yutani).

Simple.

This quote doesn't annoy anyone?

Mr Cameron says he would need to be satisfied in advance that his planned films would meet the approval of censors. If that key condition can be met, he is keen on the potential payoff. “There are economic advantages,” as he puts it.

Chinese censors are ridiculous for a number of reasons and not over just sex/violence. I don't like the idea of foreign directors considering the opinions of the ccp when making their films.

Annoys me. MPAA is bad enough. Last thing I want is these damn communist bastards getting their say.

But they already do regardless if they like it or not...you don't think Captain America's patriotic theme was toned down to appeal to foreign markets...he'll in some places it was just called First Avenger

^^^

I don't know if that was due to the ccp but they actually banned the showing of the dark knight in china because they didn't like the fact one of the villain was a chinese national.

They have a history of banning foreign films for the most ridiculous things. It's a bad sign if directors start making their films to the whims of a pretty corrupt system*.

*no not the mpaa

Seems to me he wants approval ahead of time that they won't ban the movie

Yes that's exactly it, they'll tell him what he can and what he can't put in his film and if he considers the economic benefits that good he may very well listen.

I'm actually surprised his last film got through, apparently there were some rumblings about people comparing the na'vi rebellion to that of the Tibetan people.

Avatar sequels will be about alien worlds, I don't think there would be anything there to offend china in the first place, co-produced or not.

They have control in China, but not outside of it. I don't want them giving Cameron critiques on ideas of the film in script stage before they will finance the film. There is no way they won't, and I don't want Cameron listening to them just to get a cheaper production. I don't care what they do in their counrty once the film is finished, but they should have no say in a films pre-production, production, or post-production.

this is the reason why i posted the link.

to me this is a disaster. what if they say that they dont like that a blu Jake Sully killed a blue girl fighting underwater? what if they say that they dont like that the na'vi sword is to sharp? what i they dont like the theme of the sequel? what if they dont like the tone? yes maybe i am overeacting. but i have read a lot stories from them. what they like and what not.

read the quote again...Cameron will only agree to this if the censors agree to approve his films in advance...they aren't gonna change the movies

he will only agree? of course he said this to the public. should he admit that he will have to show them the script?

we all know how the world works.

Did you read my quote?

If the economics are there you pretty much have bribery for censorship imo.

Watching Avatar on FX. I forgot how crazy it was seeing this for the first time back in '09.

Oh yeah, I saw them advertising it on FX. I can't believe it's been over 2 years since that came out.

I think people will be more annoyed when A2 is 48fps.

the other day it struck me that it's pretty obvious what part two will be about:

The evil earth man companies will be doing deep sea drilling looking for Lubricatum - 100 times more valuable than oil but 1,000 time more deadly. There will be a huge drilling disaster and then entire planet's eco system will be threatened by the spill. Sensing the impending doom, the planet her self will strike back, sending huge hurricanes to punish the humans, but unfortunately the eco friendly Blue Sea Folk are also in its path and their entire village is wiped out in a flood that makes Katrina look like a sink that's overflowed. Now the Human/Blue Avatar guy form the first film has to not only deal with the toxic spill but save his new alien friends from the flood.

or something pretty damn close...

^Well, the first movie was a cliche telling of a humanitarian or environmental story written in a script some time in the 1990s, that much was very obvious. Dances With Wolves or Ferngully was the same plot structure.

Cameron is great when it comes to cinematography, but his writing has always been crap.

you can still convert 60fps to 48 and to 24. with 60 you have more information.more information that you can use on some special effects.
