James Mangold's “Ford v Ferrari” (Damon, Bale)

'Outlander' Star Caitriona Balfe, 'Quiet Place' Breakout Noah Jupe Join Ford vs. Ferrari Movie (Exclusive)

James Mangold, the filmmaker behind last year’s acclaimed Logan, is directing the feature, which will shoot this summer in Los Angeles. Chernin Entertainment is producing.

The story revolves around car manufacturer Ford’s quest to beat Ferrari as the top maker of racecars. Damon is playing Carol Shelby, the eccentric car engineer who designs from scratch the Ford GT 40, the car that just may win the 1966 Le Mans race, while Bale is portraying Ken Miles, the hotshot British racer who drives it.

Balfe will play Bale’s wife, who is also an accomplished driver, and Jupe will play Bale’s son, worried about the dangers his dad faces on the racetrack.

I saw pics of Bale out with his wife the other week, He's back to normal looking Bale (Amy curses the God's). I really worry for that man's health with all this weight on/off he does on a regular basis.

Yeah... His heart can’t be in a great position with all of those changes. Now watch him be The Fighter thin by the time he shoots this. Ken Miles’ face is quite gaunt like.

Oh damn, someone stop this man. SERIOUSLY! He just needs to do about 5 movies on the bounce where he's normal looking Christian Bale.

Oh my...

I want to preface this by saying I love Michael Mann, but this news feels like a beautiful raised middle finger to Mann, who's been trying to make a Ferrari movie forever, & who once (wrongly) told Jon Bernthal he was a "terrible actor"

Im sorry but I laughed.

That's a real jerk move though. There's nicer ways to say that

Mann is a savage. :lmao:

I do like Jon and think he’s a great actor

Looks like Bale has stopped eating all the pies.

20th Century Fox Sets Dates For Untitled James Mangold Ferrari Project, https://deadline.com/2018/06/20th-century-fox-sets-dates-for-untitled-james-mangold-ferrari-project-kenneth-branaghs-death-on-the-nile-1202416198/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

20th Century Fox’s untitled project from director James Mangold has been set for a June 28, 2019 bow. The film, which stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale, follows an eccentric, determined team of American engineers and designers on a car quest.

Bernthal is fine at what he does, I’m not sure how much range he has, but that’s just a mean thing to say.

Odd choice of release date. Never pegged this as a summer release. This ain’t a Fast and Furious. When did they release Rush?

Must be counter programming Kv because that date is at the heart of blockbuster season. RUSH was a September/October release I think.

Thanks! And yeah, most likely. Hopefully it works out. Wouldn’t surprise me though if it ends up pushed to later in the year.

They alway's do. If FOX thinks it's got awards potential they'll move it to a later date.

I've worked in the fitness field for over 25 years (PTI in the forces, then a Personal Trainer, now work as a Strength & Conditioning Coach). The man is doing himself no favours for later life whatsoever.

Some documentaries about the classic rivalry and 24 hr Le Mans:

This one looks good and focuses somewhat on the rivalry.

While the Ford Ferrari rivalry is a huge part of it, and it's a huge victory for Ford.
The more "real" human drama and focus will likely be Ken Miles the driver being portrayed by Bale, who gets kind of screwed in the end, as far as who actually won.
Interesting story.
Should make a great movie.
And I do love the setting of the drama.

"This time Tomorrow"
Oddly blasé look at, and interviews about the race "endurance run" put out by by Ford.
Although you see random cars wrecked or on fire along rout, indicating there was an intensity to it all, they never actually show it, instead focus on random people and side events.
Although it does establish the people, place, time and setting very well.
And a look at some of the cars.
