Anyone else feel like they should have been bigger actors? I know they do a lot of tv stuff, but goddamn. I still remember when Spader was considered the next Deniro at one point. I always have a smile when one of them shows up randomly in a tv show or film. I started watching Mr Robot and had a grin when Slater appeared.

I just feel like they should be better regarded.

agree

both guys are talented actors, especially Spader. i think what screwed Christian Slater was his drug abuse back in the 90s but it's nice that he's had some steady television work recently

as for Spader, the guy was in loads of films in the 80s & early 90s. no clue what happened with his movie career but like Slater he's had plenty of television work

James Spader could be a household name akin to Depp right now. But I think he simply chose not to.

Spader's doing okay for himself. He's in one of the biggest shows on NBC and he played the title character in a movie that grossed $1.4 billion this summer.

I have always felt they were overdue.

The rumor and never confirmed was that Slater read for Seven and was amazing, but Finch decided not to cast him due to his apparent drug use.

Imagine how different Hollywood would be with Slater's career exploding instead of Pitt. Interesting.

I'm guessing for the Brad Pitt role.

Spader has always been awesome. He's not exactly hurting for work but it would be cool if Avengers opens him to more substantial film roles.

They were good together in Interview with The Vampire.

I was surprised to see they (Slater and Spader) have not been nominated for an oscar. For some reason I always thought they were.

Brad Pitt was also offered Slater's role in True Romance, but took the smaller role instead.

Did you make this thread after watching the new Collider movie talk episode today where they talk about James Spader?

If not, here's that part of the episode.

Jack's Back is my fav Spader film.

Crash for me. He is a straight up pimp in that, mayne. :cwink:

Nah, I thought about it after binge watching Mr Robot and Secretary.

I just feel they need more love from our american directors.

Spader got a steady niche playing villains or shady types most of his career. Spader has that cultured educated vibe rich guy vibe which usually means your a villain in Hollywood.

I remember turn of the millennium movie The Watcher in which Spader played a FBI agent hunting down Keanu Reeves Serial Killer. Keanu made a pretty good villain.

Dr. Daniel Jackson in Stargate was the nearest Spader came to being a heroic leading man in a mainstream Hollywood film.

Hollywood is a shallow place and unfortunately Spader's good looks started to fade at the end of the nineties. Spader's contemporaries such as Robert Downey Junior and Tom Cruise still look great.

Christian Slater is great but his off camera problems hindered his career a little. Slater is doing great work on Mr Robot and his personal life is settled so he could be due a renaissance. Slater would be great in something like True Detective.

I love Spader in The Office, as Robert California. :p
