January 2008 Sales Rankings

Unless there's a big drop off on ordering next go around(and I think they'd have to get to the 60-70K/issue to make a dent), I'd imagine these changes to be around for a while.

Secondly, the hard fact is that even if sales for ASM 3 times a month dropped moreso, they would STILL outsell the sum total of ASM, SSM, & FNSM per month. Last year, I believe those three sold about 2.5 million copies per year, combined, on a "thrice a month" schedule for Spidey. Under that ratio, each issue of ASM per week only has to sell around 65k in order to reach that number per year (I estimated so the numbers may be off a few). A comic can sell 65k and not even be in the Top 30.

You're about right. I totaled the last few months when they were all running, and came to an average somewhere around 60-70K. And I didn't even take into account that a lot of them were being bumped by events. AND, last but not least, if they're really committed to this for the long term, that probably gives them a cushion down to about 40K, which would still be 120K a month for Amazing (it depends on how you look at it really)

How did Onslaught Reborn outsell Annihilation and Nova?!

Perhaps as a former big name, shops will overorder more than they can sell. Lord knows I've seen that last X-FORCE collecting dust on many shelves.

Yeah. Despite how much anger there is about OMD I don't see the merged ASM selling below 90k a week honestly, and even below 100k is a stretch. And those are still big numbers in the long run. While I'm not reading ASM, it cements Slott as an A-List talent and that'll be good in the long run for us. Least I believe so. And for him, too. ;)

Actually, we'll find out next month if the "boycott" is going to do any damage since the first three issues we're already ordered before the ending of OMD.

Also Dan, since you're here, how do you feel about Avengers: The Initiative's numbers?

Great!
In December:
A:TI #8 sold 58,126
A:TI ANNUAL #1 sold 57,620

and now we know that...
In January:
A:TI #9 sold 59,365

That's pretty good news: up over 1,200! Nifty! :)

That is good news. Events had kept A:TI from finding what some call a "level audience" for a while now but it seems to be settling into one and those numbers are plenty healthy.

I also figure that Gage will write the issues solo when ASM makes your schedule hectic; he is a good choice. I'm glad he's on a book like that with you. ;)

Actually JMS' last few issues before OMD were selling much better than BND.

ASM #537 - 114,800
ASM #538 - 142,390
ASM #539 - 137,723
ASM #540 - 119,642
ASM #541 - 108,217
ASM #542 - 105,678
ASM #543 - 106,478

Vindication.

Actually...

In the month before OMD...

ASM #543 - 106,485
FNSM #23 - 44,661
SSM #40 - 52,180

Total: 203,326

ASM #546 - 136,109
ASM #547 - 108,485
ASM #548 - 105,122

Total: 349,716

That's a vindication for BND... by about +146,391 :spidey::up:

C'mon. Give us some props. :)

You've definitely earned 'em!

I just ask because after such a strong debut issue the numbers seemed to be dwindling, but if you feel good about it, then I shouldn't worry about it right? Right?:csad:

The point is that all BND did was divide the fan base. I wonder what the sales figures could have been if BND got the same creative team and the same push, but had a much better premise and set up. Much better, I'm betting.

No, OMD divided the fanbase.

People who are hating on BND are nothing but ignorant haters who are bitter over the bulls**t Quesada has done to Spider-Man over the years.

BND is great and made me feel a lot less pissed off after reading what I think we can all agree on, being the worst issue in all of comics in 2007.

While it's great to see the sales because you deserve them, you shouldn't get props for that.

You and the others deserve props for saving Spider-Man from the horridness of OMD.

I was so pissed off after reading ASM #545, and I was seriously considering on dropping ASM. But after reading your first arc and Guggenheim's first issue, I have been really looking forward to reading Spider-Man again.

BND is great and I really hope the level of quality continues from you guys

QFT!

Final Crisis should be able to break the 100k barrier easily, top spot for sure.

Good for Hulk!

Keep in mind that was the heavily publicized issue of Cap that introduced bucky AS the New Captain America-- complete with 2 Alex Ross variant covers. :)

Seriously? I (and a LOT of people at Marvel) thought that CAP #34 was going to be the #1 book of the month. And I'm guessing if that if it came out in the first week of Jan. instead of the last week, it might have pulled that off! Remember, it went back to press too. All it would have needed was less than an extra 6,500 copies to take the top spot. Keep an eye out in the Feb. sales for how well the CAP #34 reorders sold. It might not have been a case of who ran the fastest race, it might have been a case of when the runners ran out of track.

Here's the important thing:
Every single issue of ASM that came out in Jan. outsold DC's entire line. :D
Yeah, I went there. ;)

heh. :yay:

GNR, get that logic out of here please.

I dont understand why people are still saying "for a new series to hit 24 issues is rare" when now a days a good portion of the new series are reaching that mark. Or will whenever they get to that point.
