Monthly Comic Sales Thread

Superior Spider-Man has not sold less than 85k after 10 issues...

:yay:

It's one of my favorite books every month

But why? I need details DAMMIT :argh:

Seriously though, I knew sales were high during the Joker arc with the die cut cover and all that fun stuff but sales have been steady through the roof for like 20 issues now......kind of unheard of this day and age.

Snyder's really setting the pace with the writing... my only complaint is that his arcs are waaaaay too long for my liking... Court of Owls was 11 issues, Death of the Family was a reasonable 5 issues, and now we have Year Zero with 12 issues...

:sleepy:

But the art, as well as the writing, has kept me very interested in this book.

:yay:

Are the stories high quality though? Is this a run for the ages a la Miller's Daredevil?

I haven't bought DC in forever but if this is as good as advertised maybe I'll pick up some trades and give them a whirl again.....

It's probably a mixture of multiple things. The art is consistently good. The stories, for the most part, feel unique or different. It's the Bat-Book that gives the majority of the Bat-Verse its direction. The only thing that trumped it was Batman Incorporated 8.

I know a lot of people rag on it based on portions of the story or some of the twists, but I think most of that has more to do with people not wanting to let the New 52 continuity run and want to cling to the old continuity (which is understandable). Personally, I think it's fantastic.

I at least recommend picking up the first story, which I think is collected into two trades: The Court of Owls and Night of the Owls. That's the story that got me hooked. It also led to me getting caught up on the Talon ongoing title that came from it, and I really like it.

They are mostly better than average... but more importantly, it's got me reading Batman again for the first time since 1996.

:yay:

Yeah, Snyder's Batman is pretty fantastic. He tells a good story that is so different from all the other Bat books. I'm not wholly on board with Year Zero, though. First issue was good, but I'm already peeved that Riddler now has to be intricately weaves into the Wayne's backstory. I wish writers would learn that a villain can sometimes be just a villain and not be tied into a character. My major complaint with the current Batman direction is how everything has to be a puzzle which various characters all linked into Wayne's past. I'm surprised the Kent's aren't related to him yet.

Martha Clark's cousin is Martha Kane's mother... making Martha Kane Martha Clark's first cousin once removed... the cousin named her daughter Martha in honour of her cousin Martha.

:yay:

Superior just won't go away. :D

Surprised Age of Ultron is so high. Guess people weren't avoiding it like me,

Makes me glad to see All New X-men, the highest selling team book that Marvel puts out. Despite their push to make the Avengers the top dogs, Im glad to see it and its sister title doing higher than Avengers and its sister title, respectively. All 4 are doing great numbers though. I just hope the Xmen get a push when DoFP nears closer to release

Really wish AoU sold less than it did. There were so many better books.

I'm surprised how low-selling some of the DC books I buy are. Phantom Stranger at 127? Ouch. Talon's at 101 (though I might be dropping that one). Thankfully, DC has a lower threshold than Marvel.

And deservingly so. Great title, though I'm iffy on the current arc.

All my DC books are doing great, but my heart breaks for Captain Marvel every time I read one of these lists.

Thor: God of thunder at position 30? Man, IMO this is the best book Marvel has atm

Hold up, theres a Batman and Batgirl book? Since when? Is it in continuity and it stars Babs as Batgirl? Wow, having them in a title where they get to interact more in their superhero roles sounds like an awesome concept as it feels as if Ive only been able to see that through their tv ventures

Not really. It's the Batman & Robin title, but since Damian died they've been doing a story about Bruce grieving, each one staring Batman and a member of the Bat-verse. Whoever the guest star is takes Robin's place in the title for that issue. That one issue had Batgirl, so it became Batman & Batgirl for one issue.

Marvel is doing a great job of pushing Guardians to mainstream comic readers. And Scott Snyder is just untouchable right now. And Superior Spider-Man continues to be the breakout success of the year. And it's interesting that DC takes 6 of the top 10 spots with Justice League, Batman, and Superman, but after JLA you can't find any other DC titles in the top 20.

I have a feeling that's about to change. Marvel's high prices always give them the edge in sales, but DC's stepping up to their price range, so I expect that to mix it up quite a bit more. As much as I hate the $4 price point, I can't really get mad at DC for doing it because Marvel's pretty much forced their hand. I appreciate that they TRIED to keep prices for the most part at $3. And at least their $4 has more content than Marvel's. Every DC comic in September is $4, and come November a lot of the #25 issues are $4. I'm curious how things will fall when DC plays closer to Marvel's price point.

Why is Guardians of the Galaxy so high? When did that happen and what is Marvel doing? That seemed to come out of nowhere

Damn, DC is dominating. Do they have an event or something to explain all those sales about or over 100K?

That issue of GotG had Angela if I'm not mistaken. It was also promoted as being co-written by Neil Gaiman but he only ended up being credited as a creative consultant.

DC is also in the middle of the Trinity War event that's been talked about for years it seems.
