Everyone and their Mom has made this point. :o

May sound pretty obvious but, when Snyder said that we haven't seen this Lex before, does he mean just in live action?

i'm pretty sure that's what he meant. gotta remember that there are plenty of people who don't read the comics or watched the cartoons

He's naturally kind of lightly-built and with his total lack of hair he could come off looking more ill than intimidating.
His face, glare makes your argument invalid.
Besides, The Joker is really thin. Bet you don't think the same.

Not sure about the two expressions theory,
You just need to cover his right side and see the left. And then see the left covering his right side. You'll notice it.
We need a pic of him in a suit now.

You mean like this? :p

I did so the first time you mentioned it. I get what you mean, though the left side doesn't seem all that friendly either. :woot:
And I don't know if anyone can really pull that two-face thing off for a picture, no matter how talented actor he is.

Anyway, I've seen some films with Eisenberg and I think he definitely has the chops to do a great job with this character. I'm very interested in seeing his Luthor.

"Friendly" Lex. And while it's subtle it show the detail Snyder had, and the nice touch Eissenberg did while doing both gestures. Specially in the eyes. Well at least is how I saw it :)

And yep can't wait to see his take on Lex.

It's different from previous versions that's for sure. For some reason I'm expecting him to do a very deep intimidating voice for Lex.

Noice. :yay:

I have a feeling that those expecting that are going to be disappointed. Jesse is a fine actor but I don't think he's going to alter his voice all that much.

So many posts on forums such as these warn others of impending disappointment.

Let's just wait and see, eh?

Reg... I am now and always have been a supporter of Jesse in the role. But I don't expect some kind of deep authorial voice from him, given his track record of roles in the past. I think his acting was spot on for a modern Luthor, but hoping he has a deep voice seems a fool's errand. I wasn't slamming Jesse in the least, just saying that expecting him to sound like James Earl Jones or the like is wishful thinking and may even be a bad fit, since Jesse as a "type" was what they wanted for Lex, and a deep voice may not fit the approach to the character, given the fact of his being cast.

They wouldn't be disappointed if they just accepted that that's the way the guy's damn voice sounds. Honestly, when it's coupled with a demeanor and confidence like the one presented in this promo pic, a soft, quiet voice has the capacity to be even more intimidating than a deep husk. Keaton meet Bale. Besides, there's no unwritten rule that says the Luthor of the comics has a deep voice anyway. It strikes me that people only project that sorta voice because the Luthor of modern day is usually depicted as a big, intimidating looking muscle head.

...like Mike Tyson. :whatever::cwink:

I also don't think that he can do a very deep voice. I hope he'll change the way he speaks to an extent though, as it is quite unique and it would probably remind me of his other roles.

I think part of the reason they cast Jesse is he doesn't need an authoritative voice or huge build to play the bad guy, he's incredibly good at playing characters that make the people around them look and feel like idiots. He's the polar opposite of Superman, he isn't physically impressive, and he doesn't have an authoritative voice but that doesn't stop him from making the people around him look lesser in comparison.

I think Eisenberg simply speaking slower and more controlled would go a long way.

I'd more attribute it to Clancy Brown's portrayal of Lex in the DCAU.

I can understand this, but I wouldn't want him to slow down too much, I think his fast-talking is one of his strengths.

Well that's also quite silly and close minded.

How? It's easily the most well received interpretation of Lex involving any sort of actor's performance, so it's far from silly that because of that the first type of voice people would associate with the character is the deeper more intimidating voice Brown provided, and a change from that can understandably take getting used to.

I wouldn't mind it. I actually think it kinda makes sense for Lex's smug character to speak slower than what would be usual, like he's explaining things to idiots (basically how he would see most people around him in comparison to him) and because he finds that every word he speaks is important enough to be highlighted.

He can still fast-talk when he gets genuinely irritated. Though it might be a bit too much of schizophrenic Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde behavior.
