Jill Scott's Essay on Interracial Relationships

Yeah, that is pretty much the consensus, hence that Cheerios commercial backlash. Every other commercial is a white guy with *insert race here* chick and no one seems to bat an eye. White guys are just non threatening.

It's not about being non-threatening or not, it's about who has the power, especially when it comes to popular perception and control of the media. White men are predominantly in control of the media, from TV, movies to advertising, so obviously they are more comfortable showing white men excercising their droit de seigneur over women from a variety of cultures.

In regards to TV/Film, I feel like Hollywood is more comfortable showing relationships between a White Guy and a Non White Woman more than anything else.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that if "Walking Dead" were on ABC, Maggie would not be with Glen.

People ship Rick and Michonne. Andrew Lincoln has had a few black female love interests over the years on UK television.

I've got to admit, its a bit irritating to see. I remember watching Prometheus, and how they seemingly set up a relationship between Idris Elba and Charlize Theron's characters, only for it to go nowhere.

Contrast that with Elba's role in "Luther", where he plays the lead and has onscreen romances with indian and white women, and no one bats an eyelash. UK TV does it right.

To be honest, that relationship is the least of the problems Prometheus had and I liked that movie. I do get your point though.

As a black guy who's in a relationship with a white woman. i got no problem with Kerry Washington being in one with dude on scandal( sorry but i don't watch that show cause i feel i will have to turn in my "man card" afterwards:cwink:) I have no problem at all seeing a black woman with a white guy since that would be extremely hypocritical of me!

Oh baby but the stares i get from some black women walking with her! if looks could kill i would be a dead man! it's often with such disdain and hatred you would think i betrayed Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad or something!:cwink: i usually pretty much gotta laugh in their faces cause they didnt want me when i was just a comic nerd! so as I've grown now they want me and are mad??? Now it's that "they take all our good men thing" but back in the day cause I dug comics alot wanted nothing to do with me!

I personally dig couples no matter who mixing it up cause only then will it finally ever put an end to this nonsense! cause you should be with whoever you want to be with!this Black man/white woman thing is still the last great American Taboo!

i also think Jill Scott is a dope! cause if you are happy and secure in "YOUR" relationship you could care less about seeing ANY other couple in theirs. which is why i have no problem with the black woman/white man thing... i just have problems with soap opera dramas!( cause then i will have to turn in my man card!) Hehe

just my 2 cent cause that's all the change i had

Definitely not correct, which is another reason why I dislike this article. Jill Scott acts like interracial relationships are one sided when there are huge amounts of black women who only want white guys.

With that said, the black women wants to date other black guys (like Jill Scott) talk so much to the point that they pretend to act like this is one sided.

I suggest this. How about all of us, no matter what race or sex, date whoever the hell we want and stay out of each other's business?

Welp, everytime this thread gets bumped, I feel to compulsion to say this. Here it goes.

F*** Jill Scott for her opinion.

:down

I feel that exact same way. :woot:

This is the way it should be, but of course you can't tell that to certain idiots.

I think if someone actively says they avoid dating a certain race, then I admit I raise an eyebrow because that sounds a little shady. If you just don't find someone attractive or whatever, then it is what it is.

I fully support Parker Wayne's clarion call for a multi-racial global orgy. It's what the Rev. Dr. King would have wanted.

The reason I have a problem with saying it's ONLY black women who have a problem with interracial dating is it is simply not true. There are people of
races both men and women who may have this problem. It's not something exclusive to the black community.

Emergency Ward 10 was the first interracial kiss on British TV in 1964. In a America it was a 1968 episode of Star Trek.

Surgeon Louise Mahler (Joan Hooley) and Doctor Giles Farmer (John White) sharing a passionate kiss.

Sadly the kiss between the doctors was considered so controversial that surgeon Louise Mahler was written out of the show soon after.

I had never heard of that before. I am familiar with Trek though. Times have certainly changed. I can't post gifs from Scandal because they are too racy for the hype. :yay:

Wow that bogus!! you learn something new everday.i remember seeing the kiss between Kirk and Uhura as a kid and thinking nothing of it!cause Kirk was only interested in being married to his ship. it was only later that I got the sneaky way Gene Roddenberry got them to kiss was having those dudes on the planet "telekinetic" force them too!
Which i read really peeved off alot of people when it original aired! and which is why i love Roddenberry! cause he pushed the envelope and didnt care who got mad about it!
Uhura was smoking HOT with those go-go boots and miniskirt!!Oh baby!So is Kerry Washington only i dug her better with the Thing cause I'm not watching scandal!

Man, it just burns my soul to see a strong black woman dating a Jewish-American mutate with orange rocky skin.

A black man is not automatically yours just because you share the same skin color.

I'm open to any race as long as the dude isn't stupid and or an *******. I'm sorry but I'm not going to go "sorry Asian, white or any other non-black guy I'm not going to get with you because Jill Scott said I shouldn't."

In E4 shows like Skins and Misfits everyone sleeps with everyone.

Black/Asian relationships are more taboo and rare in Britain than Black/white or Asian/White.

This

Black women aren't my property and can date whoever they want. It is none of my business who strangers date.

The only issue I think non-racist people have is when someone who dates another race runs down the men or women of their own race with some racist/prejudiced nonsense.

Date whoever you want but don't come with that prejudice all black/white/asian/arab, ect men or women are this or that racial inferiority stuff.
