Interracial relationship? Don't get married in Louisiana...

Ok guys simmer down, Dreadstar, any form of holding people down with self righteous judgment is a prejudice, whether you agree with the prejudice or not.

I'm not even sure who this rhetoric is aimed at but the bottom line is what it is, no matter how many times people trot out "opinion" the fact remains, to hold judgment over others and force them to do as you think in order to be part of what you deem society should be, is prejudice and in this case abuse of power.

I agree Hunter.

Also, most black people who have lived for several generations in the US are mixed, even if they don't know it and you can't see it. Slaveowners often had their way with their female slaves...

I also wonder what he would have done if it wasn't immediately obvious that the couple was interracial. Like, I have half-Jewish cousins and they don't really look Asian. Would he have deemed it "okay" for them to marry a white person if they hadn't told him their mom was Chinese?

I still think he's projecting assumptions onto others, anyway. He's assuming that the races shouldn't mix, because it would disturb the status quo to see something like this:

That's Obama with his biological niece. :oldrazz: ZOMG they're related THE HORROR.

awwwwwwwww

I disagree strongly with the judge, but I am not sure if it is racist. Nor do I really want to see him lose his position over this.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, his intent seems just - even if completely flawed.

Please dig a deeper hole, Norman.

Elaborate.

You think there is merit to the fact that kids spawned from inter-racial relationships are better off NOT being born to a married couple?

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Even if he meant well, that doesn't excuse his discriminatory behaviour. Especially since he is representing the state and using his power as a JP to deny someone something that is perfectly legal.

"Meant well"?

I'm sure slave owners "meant well" when they thought that black people were better off on their plantations than running around hungry and hurting themselves.

I know I've had this discussion with several posters here BUT, I always attribute Jewish with religion. Although, there was a Jewish race at one time, they've been spread out too much. Why you have Russian or German jews etc. Even if you want to argue someone who's from Israel as Jewish, there are Christians there as well. [/end rant]

Think that's kinda cool, actually.

Franklin, I don't disagree that what this guy said is dumb and obviously racist discrimination. I'm just saying that in his own mind he thinks he's doing the right thing, but that really shouldn't matter in this case.

Like I said before, JP's have to follow the law and human rights codes. As a JP, unless there is a Lousiana law that specifically states that he can deny marriage licenses based on race (which I highly doubt, and really hope doesn't exist), he has no right to deny these people the right to marriage. When he accepted the job of JP and began to do his duties, he needed to check his personal biases at the door.

the hilarious part is that the judge justifies his behavior by saying he has "piles and piles of black friends" and let's them use his bathroom.

Haha, when some people hear stuff like this they immediately be like, "i'm gonna go out and sleep with a bunch of white girls" just to spite it.

I haven't ever said that, just saying.

<_<

The judge said what..?

To be honest I'm tired of the word inter-racial anyway. There is only one race.

The Human Race.

Unless the Martians show up later, there is no such thing as inter-racial.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

yep.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

:lmao:

Funny that this happened in Louisiana...where "Creole" is one of the first words to come to mind...after "musical genius Master P", of course.

Yes, that's exactly what I think. Which is why I said "I disagree with the judge".

I agree that in light of this, he should be required to abide by the law he is meant to follow - but I would be willing to give him a "second chance" over this assuming his record doesn't display racist leanings.

So this idiot was thinking of the children the couple might of had? What if they just wanted to get married and didn't want any ****ing children? There ARE couples like that.

Everyone mentions Barack who is a great example for sure, but let's not forget the mixed race child known as Derek Jeter who pulls legendary amounts of tang :o

Barack could get more than Jeter.

Muhammad Ali's Great Grandfather was a white Irishman called Abe Grady who married a freed African American slave and that was in the 19th century.

Yet this dudes still using the weak ass excuse that the kids would have it tough.

Dont be so sure. DJ has dated Biel, ScarJo, Jordanna Brewster, Mariah Carey, more famous models than I could name, and is currenlt dating Minka Kelly

Gets more ass than a toilet seat.

All great boxers got the irish in them.

This judge deserves to have his ass fired. I'd love to take him to dublin and let him pal around by my massive mixed race family. And by pal I mean have his ass kicked by. There is no reasoning besides blatant racism that can be drawn by this statement (even if he does allow the colored folk to pee in his toilet). Actually I'm pissed a guy like this can get by screening to be a judge.

What I'm wondering is why this couple can't go to another person to get married.

This judge isn't the only one with authority to marry people. What he is doing is incredibly ignorant but that shouldn't stop this couple or any other mixed couples from getting married in that area.

They did just that, they're married. They just didn't let something ****ed up go, they called attention to a bad judge.

I think once you have to go further from 1/4, it should really stop counting. :o
