Jim Carrey as Riddler

You found a hyper active Two Face who kept tossing his coin until he got the answer he wanted amazing?

yes, yes i did
but again that was in that movie
against aceventura in a leotard

he was way better than seeing stanly ipkiss bounce around the batcave

i will continue to defend this portrayal of harvey

and if there were no ace ventura,
this would be a much better harvey dent, since jones had to raise his performance to manic levels just to keep up with carey

just imagine how sinister he would have been if teamed with a robin williams riddler instead of jim carey

Yep. That's all I got to say about that.

With the right director to reign him in and get a proper performance out of him (Carrey can be quite a good actor if he tries)I think Carrey would have been better as the Joker than the Riddler.

If only they made him wear a suit instead, and no flashy stuff or dancing, he would have been much better
Riddler is my favorite Batman villain, they made damages to him in that movie, Carrey played the role fine, he's not to blame

Although I think Jim Carrey always tries his best, I could not agree more about him as the Joker. He would be the next logical choice if they were to do a reboot, in my opinion.

i hated him in this
he wrecked the whole movie for me

tommy lee jones was amazing and would have been even better if not for jim hamming up every scene he was in...
he was not playing the riddler, he was playing frank gorshin playing the riddler

and that is lame

Frank Gorshin was a great Riddler. Very close to the original conception of the Riddler. Read the first Riddler issue here: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/2202350.html

I read entire the first issue of Riddler (Detective Comics 140) and I liked it. Good introduction to the character.

Jim Carrey seems to be based on the Animated Series Riddler, because the origin is almost the same.

Although I haven't read many Riddler comics, so maybe someone can correct me on this?

I found him intensely obnoxious and unbearable, much like I did Jones as Two-Face.

I found him to be over the top (even by his standards), but that argument falls flat really because lets face it the whole movie was over the top!

According to Carrey, he saw Edward as an "ego out of control." And he achieved that in the character. And yes, the tone of the movie allowed that kind of humour, which TL Jones - much unlike Carrey - failed to execute well.

TLJ fits serious roles a lot more, not a good fit for comedy

God knows why he chose to play it all crazy and cackling. Or why he chose to stay quiet every time Carrey was next to him.
:hehe:

He should play more movies with Ashley Judd, and have them surprising Brian Bendis

What's funny is that MIB was an all out comedy and even in that movie TLJ was the straight guy with a permanent poker face:o

A good director would have told him to play it serious and set him right, but no, I bet Joel egged him on to ham it up as much as possible.

Carrey's Riddler compared to the source material was totally off,But as a character and for the movie itself for what it was..I think he did great and still loved him being cast!!

Carrey&TLJ were perfect for those roles,IF BF did not go campy and stayed Burton dark then I bet they'd have much bigger fans of them in the roles,Carrey can do dark&serious and IF TLJ were like his character in The Client But actually evil..Fans would be debating right now who was the best Harvey Dent/Two-Face from BF&TDK!!!

Ah, that's possible. Although I heard this interview with MIB's director in which he tells they made a shot of TLJ saying something funny, and TLJ totally overdid it. So the director goes and tells TLJ to do it again, but as serious as he could. He overdid it again. So the director goes and tell TLJ, see, TLJ, the line is funny so the more serious you say it the funnier it'll sound. TLJ looked back at him terribly serious and angry. MIB's director said that he learnt there that actors don't like to be told how to act. But what I learnt is that TLJ has not good instict for certain things such as comedy.

At least in BF he tends to go over the top for absolutely no reason, just like thinking over the top = funny. And then again you have Jim Carrey going over the top, but funny, with so many different resources that he earns to be like that.

Only if you like The Riddler behaving like The Mask or Ace Ventura.

Try Frank Gorshin.

But I remember reading a interview with Carrey and he said he watched Gorshins Riddler over and over again and thats who he emulated.

Thats fine for a 60s campy show and all, but...

And TLJ is much worse. Did he even bother reading any comic book material with TwoFace in it? The character was calm, cool, collected, mythodical, precise..... TLJ played a idiotic comical buffoon.

BF is a abortion from beginning to end. Directed by a guy who was tired of Batman being dark, and said, I quote here... "That Bruce Waynes life isn't all that bad".

Why was this guy allowed near a Batman movie when he didnt even understand the basics of the character?
