John Carter : A Princess of Mars

John Carter wasn't envisioned as a 3D film from the start, so that's why I a bit ticked off that they're going to post-convert it.

There is no way they would miss out on the possible extra revinue. I think its a waste of money post-converting. If the film wasn't envisioned for 3D it shouldn't be 3D. Post-converting screams money-grab.

I agree, movies should film in 3D and post-converted 3D should go hide in a corner and just disappear.

Andrew Stanton was the one that didn't want this project in 3D but as Disney (and other studios) don't see anything other than money in 3D, they went ahead with the post-conversion.

The thing that divides directors (old school film supporters like Nolan, Abrams, Speilberg) with filming in 3D is the fact that you have to shoot digitally rather than o. film.

And while digital is getting better (Red Epic) it's beautiful in a different way. film just has a certain look.

it just breaks my geek heart when someone kinda dismisses a project like this.

The teaser under sold te premise but if you read the recent articles about the film (Colider, Slashfilm) the movie should be potentially great.

I mean the Pixar team is behind te film just without the pixar branding. Maybe that's why I'm a little defensive. Visuals aside, this ain't the same fools wrote and directed 'Price of Persia'. Thr problem with my argument is that we don't have much I go by until the next trailer...
wasnt it said that noone from Pixar is working on this movie ? only Stanton?

nope. Stanton's co-writer worked on Wall-E, and the pixar braintrust gave their input during a private screening thus lead to some reshoots.

Heck, that recent editing room visit by numerous sites was held at pixar.

you are aware that on every movie a lot of people work on scripts and everything else and they dont get credit. this is normal for a big budget movie.

This I completely agree with. Some films require a certain look. For instance, a western IMO should always be shot on film.

if Deakins uses a digital camera then they are good enough.

Of course I'm aware! But with Stanton he's using what he can with Pixar. I winnnn!

i hope its a good movie. Tron was not what i was expecting.

i also noticed that Taylor has 2 difference fces through the trailer. one angry and one normal. and he always has hes mouth open. i hope there is more to this actor

So why was this being compared to Avatar? The trailer was good but what is so groundbreaking about this film? Honestly in terms of aesthetics and sfx tron legacy was far more impressive and I could understand where the avatar comparisons came from. With this I just don't see it....looking forward to it though!

Avatar story was inspired by John Carter on Mars. maybe this is why they compare it

Odd that they didnt title it John Carter from Mars, but it still looks epic, and i have read so much about JCFM over the years i will definitely see it in a theatre.

book was written in early 1900's movies like avatar and star war took lots of influence and material from the book

Again, don't e bothered by people who might thnk Carter's a ripoff.

When I saw 'Fellowship of the Ring my friend claimed it ripped off Star Wars. Mind you we were kids back then but ignorance can be a strong beast.

I was around 12 when I first read LOTR....about 40 years ago...:awesome:

did you enjoy LOTR in 2003? had to be a great time right?

i have a feeling that they are trying to make a connection with Earth and Mars in the movie. because sometimes it looks 100% exactly the same planet.

I think do too, Derk B.

Yes there is a connection between Earth and Mars, how do you think he got there?

The LOTR movies are absolutely fantastic to me. There were deviations from the novels...but they did enough that was straight out of the books and how I had visualized them for 40 years that it didn't matter.

I'm starting to think the John Carter books might get the same reaction from me.
