Daredevil Jon Bernthal IS Frank Castle / The Punisher!

Matt wanted the case when he realized he could gain valuable info from it. ..I'm pretty sure this violates some lawyer ethic.

As much as a young Matt might want to defend only innocents, it makes little sense for that to not last. The firm needs money, and there are also rules to force lawyers to take cases if a judge gets irritated at them.

They didn't touch it in the show so far, but one way that Nelson and Murdoch could be paying some bills is by serving as public defenders. I don't know how it actually works in NYC in real life, but in at least some places in the US, public defenders are third party attorneys paid for by the state. The pay is crap, but I imagine it'd serve fine as the inglorious work Matt and Foggy do between episodes that keeps the lights on.

In every jurisdiction, there needs to be private attorneys not associated with a Public Defender's Office to handle cases, at a minimum, when there is a conflict of interest (e.g., they represent a co-defendant). In New York, if I understand it correctly, they have the Legal Aid Society, which actually does more than just indigent criminal defense. The term for private counsels are 18-B Lawyers.

It only happened once or twice, but there were some good references to technical provisions of New York law stated in a way that didn't explain it unnecessarily (when all the characters knew what it meant) but also wasn't confusing. If they were to go that route, I hope they specifically mention 18b lawyers.

ETA: I'm not from New York and some looking into this raises some questions as to whether it's still accurate. It's entirely possible that the Legal Aid Society handles all cases now, which would kill the idea of court-appointed lawyers (however, that link is recent, which tells me it's still accurate). Certainly, when Daredevil started in the 60s, it was quite common for a Judge to just call a local lawyer and ask if they would take the case (which is what happened with Killgrave in his first appearance). Things have definitely changed a lot since then.

I'm right there with you. We don't need an entire season of build-up before Frank dons the skull. It was okay with Daredevil but I'd much prefer if we skipped the long origin this time. A flashback episode like how they handled Fisk's childhood would be great. I want him in the skull in his first appearance.

I hope they do this, I loved this show but hated him wearing the cheapo costume 90% of the first season.

I'd like to see Daredevil beat up some thugs, then just when he's about to get some information the Punisher just ends the guy.

I actually wish he would wear the cheapo costume for another season at least, but that's just me. :funny:

That is your opinion, I just don't care for it. I still remember Trial of the Incredible Hulk, when I seen what they were going to use the cheapo costume last year, it was repulsive. Keep adopted heroes in their costumes, if you can't do that because of cost or you think it looks too silly, adopt something else.

that said, I hope when they do the Punishers costume they don't go the Dolph Lungren route, or make the skull practically invisible like it was in Punisher: War Zone.

So there is a painting of the Punisher skull in season 2. But will he actually don and wear the skull?

Knock that garbage off. It's a valid question. Daredevil didn't even have the DD symbol in the first season.

Yeah I remember how people were clamoring for the double D. People from all over the world see a DD and they think "Daredevil", so ingrained is it within the public consiousness. I'm surprised we managed to figure out what the show was about without it. It's 100% like Punishers skull. True story.

Without the skull he's just a random guy in black... he'll have it. Daredevil doesn't NEED the DD anymore than Cavill needs to wear red trunks to be Superman. Before long the first official pic will pop up in full Punisher gear.

In the teaser it looked like an X-Ray of a skull that looked like the Punisher skull. It could be that the X-Ray was of his wife or one of his kids and that image inspires the skull he wears. Just spit-balling.

I think it's an open question we'll have to wait to see. Certainly, they're going to reference the skull (the X-Ray is one reference), but it's not clear yet whether he wears it. My hope is, just as Daredevil wore red by the end and Fisk wore white, Punisher will wear the skull.

I'm glad you agree. I believe it's a valid point. The DD symbol has been a constant for the character ever since his debut. It was ditched for the first season. The Punisher skull was ditched for the first movie made about the character. We haven't seen any material showing him wearing the skull. I believe it's a valid question.

There hasn't been ANY official picture of Bernthal yet. Just Twitter stuff he posted and a few set pics.

Please, it's not even the same thing and you know it.

And "ditched it the first time"? That was almost 30 years ago! Let it go. Those people can't hurt you any longer. Not relevant in the slightest.

I know my truth.

Personally, I don't think Daredevil needs a double-D on his suit, just a better suit than the one he got at the end of first season. However, I think Punisher's skull is extremely important because it is a symbol that sends shivers down the criminals' spine when they see it, like the arrival of the grim reaper. To not give Punisher the skull or to delay it until the very last episode would be a terrible mistake imo.

Yes, its a valid question but just to clear a couple of things up - nothing was 'ditched'. The D/D emblem was missing off the makeshift black 'costume' for most of the first season as it never featured on the black sweat-top and pants that he wore in Man Without Fear, which the outfit is a nod to; the emblem 1st featured on his first real costume, just like in this TV show. Equally, the skull's omission from the Dolph Lundgren movie wasn't an aesthetic choice but rather a licensing one - they couldn't use it on his chest so had to make do with him using it on his knives as a calling card; the other Punisher movies had Frank with the emblem on his chest.

For what its worth, I think that we will indeed see the skull on the chest [we've no real reason to think that we wont - as GoblinWhirwind says, we haven't even had an official pic yet, only a few set pics of a couple of scenes which for all we know may be close chronologically, story-wise] but the real question is when. I have a feeling that it will be sooner rather than later.

Maybe Punisher will get the skull on his chest, and because Murdock doesn't want to be outdone, he'll get the DD on his chest.

Or maybe Karen gets a boob job, and Matt gets the letters of the new size on his chest to keep her company. :o

They didn't call him Dare Devil until the newspaper article AFTER the final battle...so he wouldn't have a DD on his chest before
