Jon Stewart to Host 2008 Oscars

Man Stewart is hilarous and Colbert plays a character on TV pretty much, I dont know if he can keep that up for a whole 4 hour show, most people wouldnt even get it. The key to the Oscars is how good can you be even when you will be dilluted for the Academy. Colbert watered down aint a funny character, Stewart still was in '06.

And who else of his anchors should host? lol@ the thought of even letting John Hodegman, Samantha Bee, Rob Riggle, Asif Mandvi or Dan Bahchidal even in the auditorium.

Conan would do good, but I dont think a mass audience that supposedly watch the awards both here and internationally would get his humour. He would be good though.

i think the opposite, the dude is huge star, you should've seen the finland episode they had. he's well known internationally.

So...another year without Conan hosting the Oscars.

I've never found Conan to be very funny, his popularity is a mystery to me.

As for Stewart hosting, I guess it's fine, but it's not really a good forum for him, the Academy is too stuck up and high on themselves for his type of humor and he's jokes will be totally watered down. If he was given free reign it would be a great show because he'd rip the stars a new one. Love to see the full Daily Show staff with Stephen Colbert take on the Oscars, they wouldn't know what hit them.

Wow so he's big with the college audience who stays up at 1am to watch and.....Finland.

Nah, look I love Conan and his Late night talk show comedy definetly speaks to the younger generation of now but its still (15 years into his job) a challenge to win the mainstream middle age audience, that's why his tonight show gig in 09 is gonna be require a huge comprimise from unless his audience grows up with him.

If that were true, some Hollywood sleazeball would say that the Oscars were targeting a more "urban" audience.

Like in 2005. Props to Chris Rock for mocking the Academy's vain attempt and trying to win black folks over with his segment of interviewing people at the Magic Johnson theatre in LA. They didnt even realise he was ripping on there own show. lol, definetly one of the finer moments in Oscar history.

His audience will grow up with him, the hip coaster audience. His biggest problem will be not alienating people in the Midwest. Those Midwesterners don't like their humor to be offensive to anyone or anything. Case in point, every single comic strip in the newspaper is watered down to play to Middle America.

i don't see anything that he has to compromise, the station chose conan to help bring the younger audience to the network at that time slot. No one finds Leno funny anymore. with conan's popularity, the tonight show can gain some momentum.

Dammit. Jon Stewart is wholly unfunny.

Why not get somebody good...like any of his anchors?

I couldn't agree more. My friends give me **** all the time because I don't care for him. I consider him the Chevy Chase of our time, he just isn't that funny and most of his whole sthick(sp) is making wierd or confused faces into the camera.
