David Koepp will direct Premium Rush for Sony's Columbia Pictures from a screenplay he wrote with his frequent collaborator John Kamps, reports Variety.

Gavin Polone (Zombieland) is producing, marking the fifth project on which he has worked with Koepp.

The story centers on a twentysomething New York City bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia U. A dirty cop is desperate to get his hands on the envelope and chases the bike messenger throughout the city.

The trade says the film will carry a bid budget and feature the kind of elaborate chases associated with a William Friedkin pic.

I think this could be a fun slice of action entertainment, somehow I am already imagining Shia getting cast as the bike messenger, the question is will it be a motorbike or a bicycle? :oldrazz:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who last starred as a lovelorn man in "(500) Days of Summer," is taking a turn into action territory.
The actor is in final negotiations to star in "Premium Rush," a Columbia chase thriller being directed by David Koepp.

"Rush" sees Gordon-Levitt as a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, only to be chased throughout the city by a dirty cop desperate to get his hands on it.
Koepp, one of the town's hottest screenwriters, wrote the script with John Kamps. Gavin Polone, who produced "Zombieland" for the studio, is producing the pic, which is eyeing a late-summer start. Matt Tolmach and Elizabeth Cantillon are overseeing for the studio.

My interest in this just shot up.

Shannon and Chung Joining Premium Rush

Michael Shannon and Jamie Chung are joining Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the Columbia Pictures thriller Premium Rush, to be directed by John Kamps from a script by David Koepp.

The film centers on a New York bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, only to be chased throughout the city by a dirty cop desperate to get his hands on it.

Shannon plays the deceptively affable cop with a violent temper. Chung would play Gordon-Levitt's ex, a fellow daredevil bike messenger who helps him outwit the cop.

Gavin Polone is producing the film.

Joseph Gordon Levitt starring and Michael Shannon as the dirty cop? I'm so there. Both very talented actors, Shannon especially. I watched the (utterly, utterly disturbing) horror flick Bug yesterday. Shannon's performance was ****ing terrifying and fearless. This might turn out to be a cool little flick!

This could be cool. It's a cool little concept that could do more than we think. I'm a fan of Koepp and the cast is solid.

Michael Shannon is grossly underrated.

Jamie Chung is hot, but I don't know if she has any talent at all.

Nice pic, but I don't have huge expectations for this one..

Shades of Quicksilver (Kevin Bacon).

I've yet to see an action film, where the main character is in shorts. Should be interesting....the shorts action I mean. :hehe:

I've loved JGL for years so I'll give the movie and shot eventhough I'm not expecting much.

Finally, Levitt is in a movie where he is the lead character... long time coming IMHO

And lord knows we need another bike messenger thriller!!! :hehe:

Seriously though, I usually look forward to most films Gordon-Levitt stars in. The Lookout, Brick, Mysterious Skin, great roles all around.

I will always remember Levitt as Tommy from 3rd Rock from the Sun. :yay:

Agreed.....can't wait to see a trailer for this.

JGL has that kind of potential to be the next Tom Cruise if he wants...

That pic of him reminds me of the scout in Team Fortress 2 :hehe:

My first real wreck today. Busted through the rear window of a cab. Luckily got my elbows up. Coulda been way worse. No, but it was my fault, I was going too fast. The director, Dave Koepp, was extremely concerned for my well-being, but I made him RECord the wound. Anyway, Premium Rush is gonna be awesome. Gratuitous ER footage to follow, stay tuned…
