it will be a non-entry like Excelsior's but i can't wait to get it done.

OK, so i finished my entry, but i wanna say few words before i post it.
I was inspired by Drew Struzan's Blade Runner posters,
always wanted to do something similar.
It was done in Painter X and Photoshop, only thing i didn't draw is the logo at the bottom
Hope you guys and gals like it!

Holy contest entry Batman! That's better than a lot of the officialartwork they're using on merchendise.

well, i'm currently working in the art field. i do this for a living, so at the risk of sounding conceited, i don't really think it's fair.

You CONCEITED SOB!!!!!!!!!!:bh:

hahaha just kidding, that's really respectful of you. Well I am still excited to see it:) even more so now that you told me that you are in the art field...Im going to school for art, so hopefully one day I can be at your level

Painter emulates real materials infinitely better then Photoshop. Painting with the oil brushes in Painter feels like actually oil painting, same goes for the watercolor and acrylic and all of their brushes. I was actually pretty amazed by it when I first downloaded the trial.

I'm not Bane, but what most digital artists who use Painter do, is do all the rendering in Painter and then move it over into Photoshop to do the last minute adjusting and enhancing. Photoshop is primarily an image editor, and it's what it's best at. Plenty of people make really great art in just Photoshop, and it's amazing to me because I have never been good at rendering in Photoshop.

Painter X is a whole different animal then Photoshop, but they work very well together and really compliment each other's faults.
Using both programs gives a lot of freedom.

oh i see- i definitely need to try painter x!- does painter x use layers like photoshop and if so can the layers transfer over or do they just get flattened when you take them to over to photoshop?

You should, it's not as widely used, but if your know what your doing it can be a really great tool. http://www.corel.com/servlet/ContentServer/us/en/Product/1208716842481#tabview=tab6
There is a free trial of Painter X.

It uses layers, and the layers do not flatten if you go into PS.

The only problem I have had going back and forth between the two, is that type layers and some filters from Photoshop sometimes will not transfer and get lost if you go over to Painter. So if you are doing any filters to finish the image, try and do them last.

postcard.jpg

Greetings from Gotham City! This postcard captures the spirit of Gotham, inspired by Paleo-Future architecture reminiscent of dreams of a better, brighter tomorrow! Since 2006, the so-called "Batman" has been sighted around Gotham City and is supposedly responsible for numerous, mysterious disturbances within the criminal underworld. As of 2008, crime is down 48% and tourism has returned to the city. Let's hope our city's "dark knight" continues to stay for years to come!

Wow, pretty original and unique pic. I'm sure no one expected anything like this for a Batman contest. Hat tip.

this is beautiful. also, appropriate, because this is very star wars-esque, and TDK is going to be the star wars of it's generation (i.e., the benchmark for all subsequent films of it's ilk)....although it is very much like the blade runner art, as well, which is awesome. this is just awesome. i'm so jealous of your abilities.

Thanks again for the comments!
@PaleHuman, Geo7877 told you everything you need to know about Painter X
