I got a little behind during the last half of 2007 and missed most of the movies that were nominated for the "important" categories at the Oscars. But after having just seen No Country for Old Men and Michael Clayton I think that Juno was the best. Yes, I still have to see There Will Be Blood and Atonement but for now I'd stick to Juno. It was a flawed movie, but really good.

As time goes on, my distaste for this movie grows, more and more. It doesn't help that the writer is a media-****e, either.

As time goes on, I think Juno will be the culturally most remembered movie of 2007 and become a generational movie, while only film historians/buffs will remember a lot of the other nominees.

Agreed.

prolly right...
it IS a brillant flick

Also let us not forget Knocked Up and Superbad. Those movies will be as, if not more, remembered.

Laugh your ass off. What has been seen more How Green is My Valley or Citizen Kane? Oh, doesn't count as Citizen Kane was innovativve and Juno is a "youth movie."

Ok. What has been viewed more by later generations, In The Heat of the Night or The Graduate? The Last Emperor or Ferris Bueller's Day Off? The list goes on.

Juno touched a nerve culturally. It isn't in my top 3 movies of the year, but I know it will be remembered above those. Who still talks about Fargo? Film historians, buffs and nerds. Now who still talks about Forrest Gump? Call Fargo the better movie all you want, one hit something in the pop culture psyche to be remembered.

Besides in this case Juno is better than NCFOM. :p

My top five list btw:

1. Sweeney Todd
2. The Assassination of Jesse James
3. There Will Be Blood
4. Into the Wild
5. Juno

I'm okay with knowing that 2 and 4 will be forgotten except by film historians eventually and 3 will be the one in 20 years a film buff/nerd will use to show off his intelligence to name drop. Juno will be watched as a movie that spoke of 2007's youth and all youth just as The Graduate did in 1967 when it was nominated against "the more deserving" Heat of the Night and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?

Sorry.

U must be joking? Best films. Maybe most entertaining, but not best, if you have any respect for film as an artistic medium three of those would not be on there. Even then your #1 was not that great of a film.

Drop the superior film fan attitude.

Laugh your ass off.

I totally agree. Some of you need to understand that there's a difference between the movie fanatics and the general public. Fans may say the best movie of the 1980s was Raging Bull but the general public will say Die Hard.

#1 won/nom'd oscars (so there!), no country was brillant, I said i'd take flack for die hard, and judd apatows movies/tv shows i always love. and besides, those are the 5 flicks i loved most. I as in me. Not you. It all comes down to opinion.

Did you not see "No Country for Old Men" on that list? Yeah. That won best picture. Since you used the term "u" instead of "you", I'm assuming your best film of '07 was "Bratz: the Movie"? :oldrazz:

As for "Juno", I really think it's a "flavor of the month" movie, like "Napoleon Dynamite" was. It was a hit, it picked up momentum, but ultimately I think it will fade away into obscurity, just like "Napoleon Dynamite" did. It's a fad movie. Granted, it is a much better film than the piece of crap that was "Napoleon Dynamite", but it's not going to be a classic or anything.

Personally, I think it's a crime that "Juno" was nominated for Best Picture and "Sweeney Todd" wasn't.

thanks for the defense--
but i thought sweeny todd was overrated. it was good, but i'll take the stage version over the movie version any day.

Personally I think it was a crime NCFOM was nominated for best picture and Sweeney Todd, Zodiac, Into the Wild and The Assassination of Jesse James were not. Funny how opinion works?

Anyway, I promise you Juno will become a youth classic. Napoleon Dynamite was a mediocre movie that had a fad following because MTV pushed it. People still talk about The Graduate or Ferris Bueller's Day Off. People will still talk about Juno for a LONG time to come.
