Orson Welles, the writer-director of the moderately respected Citizen Kane, once starred in a Transformers film. Specifically, he was the voice of Unicron of Transformers: The Movie, the best of the Transformers movies, which came out in 1986. That movie had a bad rap when it came out because it made little boys cry.

Now, I actually knew that the voice actor's name was Orson Welles, yet I had always assumed that it had to be a different Orson Welles, because why would the greatest director of all time do voice work in a little children's cartoon?

For whatever it's worth, he did a good job voicing Unicron. I wonder if he re-wrote his lines.

I believe at the time he didn't know what it was for, nor did he probably care all that much.

I remember reading that Orson Welles was even tad interested on doing a Batman movie back in the day.

The character of Orson, Mork's long-suffering boss in 'Mork & Mindy', was supposedly named after and sort of based on Orson Welles.

Not really relevant, but I just found that out the other day and thought I'd throw that in there....

Yes. It HAD to be posted here, along with rumpred news that Wells had tried to get the rights to Nero Wolfe in the 50s, Wells asvWolfe and future Tonight bShow host Johnny Carson as Goodwin.

This just in... Orson Welles was fat. I had to share this.

There isn't a single thread on any forum here that "HAS" to be here.

You need to stop getting enraged whenever someone brings up something you're not interested in -- it's bad for you.

Champ... You're smarter than that, or at least you claim to always be. I assure you I ain't mad. I just find it hilarious that you thought that here of all places, that this info wasn't already widely known. Thus the joke about Welles being fat, also common knowledge. I'm curious as to the extra sensory ability that you must possess that allows you to glean my emotional state? I thought scientists didn't believe in the paranormal? We'll, if you do have ESP, take it in for it's 10,000 precognition miles check. It's obviously faulty.

I remember reading this. He was rather... unenthused about the role. Much like Hugo Weaving.

Though he was that way about most things.

It was his final performance, I believe.
