I think both movies are of a similar quality. Which film do you think fares better?

I'm going to go with Justice League, mostly because Superman succeeds at both the glory and menace that Phoenix attempts, and because Steppenwolf gets a very cool action moment with the Amazons as opposed to a 'finally someone caught that fast mofo' moment.

But they are both hastily cut from the same overwrought cloth.

This is actually a perfect comparison. They're both on the same level - garbage villains, a story that is both undercooked and rushed at the same time, and some visuals that would have been cutting edge in 1996.

I think JL has slightly better character moments. It's also an improvement upon it's predecessor and you absolutely can't say the same for Apocalypse, which feels like it was designed specifically to bog down the superhero genre. It's everything people disliked about Age of Ultron, only without the competency or the heart.

I vote for the third option: Neither. They're equally bad, despite having one or two okay action moments. If forced to choose, I would very reluctantly go with Crapocalypse because of the Quicksilver scene, though that wasn't anywhere near as clever as it's made out to be.

Hot take: the Quicksilver scene in Apocalypse kinda sucked. It’s hearing a joke you already know, only told in a worse way at a worse time.

The Quicksilver scene in Apocalypse was like the news team battle in Anchorman 2. More aint always better.

Was just about to say that JL vs X-Men The Last Stand would have been a much more fair fight, but then I realized just how poorly made Apocalypse was.

JL gets it for Cavill, for making the most of the little time he had and of course disregarding the mouth stuff.

I would honestly rank them on more or less the same level but the only thing that gives Apocalypse the edge is this scene:

Fassbender deserved a better movie. The Weapon X scene was cool too, but Logan's action scenes put that one to shame since then.

Yeah. It seemed a little bit overkill, and at the same time Havok was getting incinerated in the middle of that whole thing which kind of cast a shadow over it.

You finally gave me a thread where I could vote for X-Men: Apocalypse! It might be bland, but it is not a tonal and narrative Frankenstein like Justice League. But hey, Justice League has prettier visuals when they're shot by Snyder (and uglier ones when they're shot by Whedon!)

P.S. Apocalypse has 4-5 good moments in it, that I'll standby:

1. The opening prologue.

2. Quicksilver saves the mansion.

3. Phoenix going medieval on Apocalypse.

4. "No more superpowers" / nukes and Beethoven monologue.

The iffy one is Fassbender's performance after losing his family. It is cliché "fridge the wife and kid" cheese, but he acts the hell out of it and made it quite strong on first viewing.

You could have stopped there. ;)

That scene makes me laugh. It is just so silly, I cannot stop laughing. Just how dramatic and yet over-the-top it is handled, it is funny.

Both movies are of equal quality to me. But, X-Men: Apocalypse gets the win. Why? The Weapon X escape sequence with Wolverine is outstanding. Within the plot itself, total divergence and highlights the film's lack of focus. But, it is just such an awesome part, it trumps anything JL offered me, which wasn't much.

Oh good, another poll so the Marvel fanboys on here to pulp on Justice League some more. Shall we have a 'Is the Justice League film the worst ever made' with a YES poll answer only and save you all the hassle ?

This is a poll I get. Both film's are close in quality. I actually had to think about this question. This isn't one like JL vs Avengers where basically, yeah I don't see a universe where that goes well.

On the bright side, JL should beat BvS if there was a poll...maybe? :oldrazz:

Thanks for the thread idea man.

Justice League. Because there were a FEW good things about JL

I hated this scene. This was beyond stupid. I hate the dopey expression as the guy shoots the most impossible shot in the world, in slow-motion no less, and this reduces Magneto to just regressing as a character. The fact Fassbender is conveying pain really well in the scene doesn't change the fact it is absurd and forced just so Magneto can be a Horseman (aka, one of the first 4 Mutants Apocalypse meets :o )

Frankly, that should sum up the Apocalypse character completely. I say this as a fan of Apocalypse.

I mean, most were expecting things like this.

Justice League by far. For all it's flaws I enjoyed the hell out of it on second viewing. Can't say the same for Apocalypse. Superman at the end trumps anything Apocalypse did.

The only thing I enjoyed from Apocalypse was the Metallica song.

I agree but I liked how over the top it was. I actually think that was the one scene where they got what comic book Apocalypse is, which is this operatic, OTT, Saturday morning cartoon that fans take seriously because he speaks in the third person and has a god complex. The rest of the time... it was just a Saturday morning cartoon. ;)

Plus, not gonna lie, seeing nuclear missiles in the air for the first time was a bit unsettling. Because unlike most CBM "destroy the world" plots (including what Apocalypse did afterward), that felt like a "Oh **** this could happen if Trump wins!"... And then he won.

Ugh... This is tough but I went with Apocalypse because I at least enjoyed Scott and Jean (for once).
