The Kansas mother of a 13-year-old boy says he son was suspended from school indefinitely because he refused the assistant principal's order to stop wearing a purse.

Skylar Davis's mom, Leslie Willis, told KCTV5 the eighth grader had been bringing his colorful Vera Bradley shoulder bag to school with him every day for weeks, and isn't sure why officials at Anderson County Senior-Junior School suddenly decided to strip him of it.

"I was a little furious, and I called the school [and spoke to Hillard] to reverify the story, and yeah, he refused to take off his Vera Bradley bag, nothing more to do it," Willis told the CBS affiliate.

A review of the school's student handbook proved there was no formal ban on purses, and Willis said girls at the school were allowed to wear them.

"I don't think everyone should be treated differently," Skylar said. "Everyone should have the same privileges."

The school has so far refused to comment on the story, but Willis says she was told her son would not be allowed back until he relents — something he isn't planning on doing any time soon.

So they feel the need to tell a kid he can't wear a purse? What the heck business is it of the school? I know a lot of male Europeans where similar style handbags all the time and don't get kicked out school for it. They are going to deny him his education because they got a wild bug up their butt?

Who wants to take the bet that these are bible banging Republicans? :woot:

Welcome to Kansas, where you can be proud of a guy in tights and a cape but you lose your **** with some guy with a purse.

They should have a few dozen guys all come in with purses and call them knapsacks or something.

At my middle school and high school there were occasional disputes about this kind of thing. We weren't allowed to carry backpacks to class because somehow keeping backpacks in lockers would prevent someone from carrying a gun. A lot of the girls would just carry messenger bags and call them purses. It was something guys would always complain about but then never actually try to see if they too could get away with just carrying all of their books in "purses."

Because the school doesn't have better things to do than harass a kid about his baggage, never mind the bullying, drugs and other things.

Edit: Will this do?

That's The One Thousand Face Palm Technic ! Man you are skilled !

I just found it. I take no credit for making it.

So boys and girls, the moral of this story is...

breaking a social norm = wrong

:o

It's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

Or a murse in some cases.

That just looks like a bag to me. Although he could have chosen something that didn't look like it belonged to a 60 year old woman.

If I was a Kansas taxpayer I would be pissed by this school wasting my tax money in what's going to become a law suit which they will obviously lose.

He should wear it inside his shirt around his stomach like the guy in the middle.

I too was about to say it's a European shoulder bag.

I am curious now. What makes this bag "European" ?
Is it the fact that it was cut from 1960 curtains ?

It wasn't because it was a purse....but because he wore that purse with that shirt. I mean....puh-leeease...!

That bag is hideous. For a second, I thought it was a Muppet-themed bag because I could've sworn I could see Sweetums' face on it. But no, that's just an insane pattern that vaguely resembles the face of a Muppet monster at first glance.

It's called a MEN'S CARRY ALL!
