The Kansas mother of a 13-year-old boy says he son was suspended from school indefinitely because he refused the assistant principal's order to stop wearing a purse.
Skylar Davis's mom, Leslie Willis, told KCTV5 the eighth grader had been bringing his colorful Vera Bradley shoulder bag to school with him every day for weeks, and isn't sure why officials at Anderson County Senior-Junior School suddenly decided to strip him of it.
"I was a little furious, and I called the school [and spoke to Hillard] to reverify the story, and yeah, he refused to take off his Vera Bradley bag, nothing more to do it," Willis told the CBS affiliate.
A review of the school's student handbook proved there was no formal ban on purses, and Willis said girls at the school were allowed to wear them.
"I don't think everyone should be treated differently," Skylar said. "Everyone should have the same privileges."
The school has so far refused to comment on the story, but Willis says she was told her son would not be allowed back until he relents something he isn't planning on doing any time soon.
So they feel the need to tell a kid he can't wear a purse? What the heck business is it of the school? I know a lot of male Europeans where similar style handbags all the time and don't get kicked out school for it. They are going to deny him his education because they got a wild bug up their butt?
Who wants to take the bet that these are bible banging Republicans?
