Ken Ham vs Bill Nye (Is creation a viable model of origins?)

See, I don't think what Nye is asking is unreasonable at all. He's asking Ham to disprove Nye's evidence. Not unreasonable.

See...I find someone who is unwilling to even be open to the possibility that at least PART of what they believe is wrong when there is strong evidence is not someone that should even be speaking in a public debate. What's the point? No one wins...it's pointless.

True. Someone saying "you can never convince me of X" is admitting that they are closed-minded.

absolutely.

I use to be of the idea that God/a force/a being created the big-bang and spun it all into motion. and sat back and watched.

You can still believe in evolution and believe in god and be a christian. if you don't take the bible as documented proof and don't read everything as fact one must follow, then why is the creation myth one that can't be viewed the same way?

I really don't see why some christians fall apart that the stories in the bible may just be stories, fables, and metaphors for how to live your life and be a good person. There system of beliefs doesn't suddenly fall apart because of that notion.

This

Pathetic.

whats pathetic?

Unless someone in the audience changes their mind about evolution. That would be a win for whoever scored the convert.

Thanks, yeah, i've really never understood it... So if the stories arn't real so what? that doesn't mean the messages are any less meaningful or impactful.

same as if the big bang was just a fluke of an event.. and so what if we all don't have a big mapped out plan for our future. Does it suddenly really make your life that much less special? less purposeful? no, not at all.

It's amusing to me that creationists ask "what came before the big bang?" when the same can be said back at them "what came before god created the cosmos?" was he just sitting in a white room bored? where did god come from?

I literally view religion (any religion) as an opportunity to enlighten your spirit and well being to be able to be a better person in society.

It's soo sad to be that religion teaches (or tries to) to be compassionate and loving of your neighbor.......but the moment they don't view what you view they are burning in Hell. What kind of barbaric thought process is that? It blows my mind in an age of Technology and innovation we have studios like FOX that just strike the fear in all their viewers and get away with it blindly.

And you know what? I bet Ann Coulter sleeps fine at night....even knowing the *****ebaggery she spews to the masses.

I think the problem is that if the stories aren't real, then there isn't much reason to belong to the religion in the first place. Why not just make up your own religion, drawing on the aspects of various faiths you find appealing?

You can still take the Bible literally and accept the theory of evolution. Think about it, with a being that is as omnipotent and eternal as God...has one considered that maybe what feels like six days to Him, is much longer than what six days feels like to us?

When did the first Biblical writings originate? What does archeology have to say about the ancient texts?

Can I believe in God and not believe the Earth was created yesterday?

I do.:) Well, I believe in the possibility of a higher power, whatever that might be, but I also fully accept the facts of nature. Its not as scary a concept as some religious people might think.

According to open minded scientist Nye you certainly can, they are indeed compatible - 2:22:23
It should jump to the spot automatically, if not scroll to 2:22:23

It's according to the close-minded zealot Ham who wants to fit everything into his (pick and choose) interpretation of the bible that you can't.

That was badass. I love Nye. The moment Ham opened his mouth I rolled my eyes and closed the link. Thanks Mondragon.

Give me a break, you have yet to actually engage with the valid points people have been throwing at you. You just stick your fingers in your ears and go "LALALALALA! I can't hear you!" You are making a conscious decision to reject all of these reasonings because it makes you feel better emotionally. That is literally the definition of willful ignorance. So, yeah, that's all I've got right now, because you refuse to engage. All I can do now is call a spade a spade. The ball is in your court and it has been for pages now.
One doesn't give a sh** yet all you keep doing is going ignorance this, ignorance. Its laughable.

? there's alot of people who are still Christian, and don't believe Noah's Arc, Jonah being Swallowed by a Whale, and the creation story are 100% accurate... and they're still Christians. Religion isn't about seeking "truths" that's science. Religion is about practicing a belief, a state of mind, and messages you have faith in. They don't have to be real events to be of a religion. It's why Religion is called a "belief system"

Still not engaging. People wouldn't be getting upset with you if you tried.

that's also part of the point i'm making... The "Great Flood" and "flooding the world" for Noah could also be translated into "great flooding of the area they lived in" a massive flood could have flooded the "world" aka the land that noah and his family knew "their world", not the entire planet.

just like god could have created the big bang, and evolution. Science doesn't have to go out the window, it's not that black and white imo..

It's all hogwash to me, but those are just examples of how you can still believe in scientific theory and the evidence that supports it, while still also very much being a Christian. There's plenty of Christians that don't follow or practice the entire bible anyway.

Well you have been presented with valid points and scientific facts that you yourself can verify by doing some simple research and your response has been to ignore them and offer no rebuttals or explanation for why you choose to stick your head in the sand. That is the very definition of willful ignorance. I think that's what is causing the problem in here. Youre essentially yelling "lalalalala cant hear you hehehe." like a child. But you know this which makes me think you are purposefully trying to bait anger from the posters in here.

I haven't been flaming, but spin it however you want.

I have nothing to prove.

Exactly. There's no point in reiterating what has already been stated if he hasn't engaged with it yet. The issue is beyond the evidence at this point and has become about his willfully ignorant, trollish attitude.

Yeah, you kinda do. You made the claims, people responded, and then you buried your head in the sand. I suppose you don't have to respond and engage, but you absolutely do if you want people to respect you in this debate. If you want to act like a child, you'll be treated like one.

Disagreement = trolling. Gotcha.

Whatever makes you feel about proving your obviously superior intellect on the subject.

My post does nothing to insinuate you were flaming. It says you are baiting anger. Which you are.
