World Kirk Alyn Serials Come to DVD

I would LOVE to see that whole series colored...

A bit pricier than I expected, but I've been waiting for these to be released.

Is it wrong for me in saying that the actress playing Lois Lane was hot even though she's like 100 years old now?

I've beem waiting to see these for ages. Can't wait. Can't wait to get the restored Fleischer shorts too - those are going to be beautiful.

lol, it turns out a friend of mine got me the VHS version of these and was planning on mailing them to me...

No. She'll be very happy, in fact.

I am not a fan of the Kirk superman ...George is my golden age Superman.

I wouldnt mind watching them again though if I could get past Kirk's portrayal. because I thought Noel looked cutest in the 40's. Like she stepped out of the comics. her hair was so authentic to the time period.

Im glad it's being released for those who want it. The more Superman stuff out there, the better.

Poor Kirk Alyn, being the first, had no reference at all. But I like him. Of course, George made the character a true classic, but I have no dislike for Kirk.

I never really liked the Kirk Alyn serials, because I can't really take them seriously. I do enjoy it for memory/camp value.

Yep....I've had them (Supes and Batman) on tape...it's good to get them on DVD. Have you got "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" serial on DVD yet?

"The Adventures of Captain Marvel" serial is on DVD? I didnt know that. Guess I'll have to go find it now. Thanks for letting me know about that, C. Lee. :)

Yeah, I had the original 1943 Batman serial on tape. But the only reason I had that serial on tape was because I had my VCR on time record back in the mid 90's to record each episode that was aired on AMC. I think it took like 3-4 months for the entire serial to play out, unfortunately I taped the serial on the slowest speed (EP I think) which made the quality not that great to be honest with you. But atleast I had the darn thing.

C. Lee, do you have the "Captain America" serial on tape/DVD? This is the only serial I remember having actually bought in a store somewhere when I was probably 14, or 15. The store also had "The Green Hornet" serials on tape as well, but I had to make a decision. So I went with Cap.

I bought it about a year ago. It's distributed by ARTISAN HOME ENTERTAINMENT. The whole serial is on one disc, but it's a good copy. CM is a good serial.

Both of them came out on VHS tape about 10 years ago (2 tapes per serial)...and they were good transfers too. I don't remember AMC ever showing them though.

Yes...I have the 2 tape Cap set put out years ago. I am waiting for a good DVD to come out. I also have the Green Hornet serial. I love the old stuff...I grew up with them.

Ah, ok. Cool. I've never seen the CM serial, but I've read reviews saying it's actually a pretty good serial. Guess you did nothing but confirm what I've read. So I'm definately picking that one up in the not too distant future. :)

Yeah, the funny thing is that I did run up on the 2nd tape of the "Batman & Robin" serial at a garage sale. But I refused to watch it as it wasnt complete. Unfortunately I never found tape 1, and never watched the serial until it was released on DVD about a year ago. I've seen the 1943 Batman serial several times though. It's probably my favourite serial. Probably because I am so familiar with it.

Cool. I bet we have the same exact tape set then. I think I bought mine back in 1996 ... and I've probably watched it twice since then. It's not a bad serial, but I enjoy the Batman serial more for whatever reason. If a DVD version doesnt come out soon, I might just transfer the tape set to DVD-R myself. Never had a chance to see any of the Green Hornet stuff, but like CM, I've heard good things about them as well. I like the old stuff as well. It's really dated, and often goofy. But I think that does nothing but adds charm to them. Acquired taste I suppose.

I was just wondering...because I'm one of the oldest people here, it's always nice to find another old fogey like me here.:D

Yep...I'm 49....you take the lead. I'm no longer the oldest on here.:D

No offence to Ms Neill, but Phyllis Coates was hotter.
