This was released the other day on Netflix and is first class traditional animation about the story behind the Santa Claus myth. It is wonderful and I highly recommend everybody check this out.

I thought it was pretty good.

I watched it last night - I thought it was very heartwarming and sweet. The animation was great.

This, to me, is probably the best Christmas movie we've gotten in a long time.

I was ****ing CRYING tears of joy during the "Invisible" song sequence. So beautiful.

Best Christmas movie I'd seen in ages.

I'm not sure I like what the ending implied though. The whole film was rooted in reality then all of a sudden it seems like magic become involved.

Actually,

It was implied with the wind bit even early on when Klaus realized he needed Jesper's help that there WAS some mystical element in all of this; it's just the movie's very subtle about it. The ending implies Klaus technically never died, he just ascended to some kind of higher plane and became the spirit of Christmas itself; able to return to our world once a year to continue his work as the Santa we all know and love.

It was too subtle IMO. The movie felt far too rooted in the real world that:

When it implied he became essentially a spirt it felt at odds with the rest of the film. I understand the wind thing but that was too ambiguous to me, and it only happened with Klaus, which indicates it's something that he's imagining happening. So it wasn't clear narration. Either you embrace the magic or your don't. Everything about the film I liked up until that last scene, because I feel like it would have been better served if Klaus had died and everyone else took it upon themselves to keep his legend going, evolving to what we know today as Santa Claus.

It reminded me a bit of the movie Anastasia with its animation.

Watched it Yesterday, it was such a beautiful crafted movie with so much heart.
Its been a while since i shed some happy tears over a movie, but it had everything you would want...especially in terms of a Christmas themed movie.

Which brings me to the question of, do Netflix originals or so get a Bluray release?
Would love to have it on my shelf.

I don't think they do. I honestly think Netflix need to produce these kind of animated movies once a year, and make a big event out of it. One way they could stick it to Disney is to essentially say 'We're picking up from where you left off'.

They did for Stranger Things and The Crown. I’m sure if it’s popular enough, they would.

Is this a good one for young kids (5/6 year olds) or more aimed at older viewers?

I think 5/6 is fine. They may not get that it’s a Santa origin story but there’s nothing scary in it.

YES! It’d be especially great/petty if they did their own animated takes on fairy tales as well.

I loved this film and will be watching again tomorrow.

this is so beautiful. i hope it wins an oscar over the disney sequels

Sure, plenty of fairytales and folklore to draw stories from.

What a cute movie. It's going to be in my Christmas movie rotation for years to come.

Just a reminder to all here about this gem of a movie on Netflix. Watch it over Christmas with the family. :)

Oscar nominated today. For those who haven't seen it check this beauty out. :)

Absolutely loved this when I saw it at Christmas and very much set to be an annual watch.

Hopefully this will get Netflix to release a physical copy to own.

I hate Toy Story 4 for winning an Oscar over Klaus...this had so much more heart
2nd annual watch for many many years to come
