Kramer's A Racist!!!

i dont think the N-word should be used by anoyone, including black people. i understand the whole reversal of its meaning and all....but that doesnt fly with me. if i went out and used that word in the same context, i'd be shot dead. it's a double standard. and despite how long its been since slavery, and no matter the context of the words use...its still so racially charged. theres other ways of showing brotherly appreciation.

and i still dont understand why black people are allowed to get away with refering to white people as crackers. to me, its just as offensive as a white man reffering to a black man as a n!@@er.

Pretty much,yeah.

But it isn't always used as a term of endearment either. Example: "Back da f*** off, n*gga!", "Dirty ass n*gga", "Stupid n*gga",etc.
I can do that too.

Back off you stupid kid. You dirt *** kid. Stupid kid.

Its the adjectives that make the sentence bad, not the word. And I know that a reverse racist black person could use it in a derogratory way too, and if I saw that person doing that I would beat his.... ahem... had to stop myself.:yay:

Like I said its only okay to use it in ways of terms of endearment. If a black person talks to anyone like that then more than likely a fight will break out.

Its not a double standard if the word is meant used in two different ways. I can't stress that more. Its noones place to say someone can't use a term as terms of endearment.

And its not okay, but most white people don't take it seriously I guess.
The word would probably more offensive if used as a term of oppression at one point in time. But white people were never slaves nor a minority, so most white people who are called said term just don't take it to heart.

The word sounds derogatory to me nomatter what context it's used in

it IS a double standard. i mean c'mon, dont even try to pretend that if i, a white guy, walked around detroit using the word as a term of endearment towards black people, wouldnt get my ass beat, if not killed. you know its true.

yeah, its true about white people not taking it seriously. i think they should though.

It is if you let your initial impression of it effect you that way.
Its funny because this word could have been replaced with flower a few hundred years back. And instead of the n word we could have been called flowers and then today flower would become a derogratory term. Now most people think, "gasp, but flower is such a beautiful word it would never be derogratiry!"
Give it a few years of derogratory use and it will be up there with the f word. Words are all beautiful, its just the meaning behind them that can be ugly. And in the end a word is only as powerful as it is percieved to you.

Its not a double standard because a white person can't use it as a term of endearment because their is nothing to endure. Now if a white people had been called the n word along with blacks back then ,that would leave grounds for both races to use it.

I can too use it as a term of endearment.

I think that would depend on his friends and whether or not he embraced the gangsta/hip-hop culture that the kids love these days.

Honky is such a funny word though.

lafayette coney island is the s#!t. that american coney island next door sucks.....despite the fact thats where mustang sally was written.

My initial impression was that it was a hateful word used by white oppressors. Am I wrong now that the oppressors aren't holding all the cards anymore?

screw american coney island...there is NO other coney island in the detroit area besides lafayette.

ps ...i'm listening to the von bondies... von bondies > white stripes i think i've had this argument with you before..haha ;)

The word was never used to put down that white persons ancestor. Its not a term of endearment for him to cope with pains of the past. What the white person is doing is being disrespectful. And if he was rich I would sue him.

thats true....but i see it often used between strangers as well. like, a black dude walks into a liquor store, walks up to the black clerk and says, "what up *****? let me get a swisha."

if i did that, the clerk would pull out his shot gun and shoot me in the face.

What pains of the past? Most people today don't understand or appreciate what their ancestors experienced. if they did there wouldn't be any black people using that word.

well, lafayette is the most worthwhile coney island in detroit....but lets face it, theres gotta be at least 300 coney islands in detroit alone....its outta control.

f**k that, the von bondies blow. and stollsheimer is a total b!tch. not only because his music sucks, and not only because he didnt know who iggy pop was, but also because he actually called the cops on my friend when he saw him spray painting a tag on an abandoned building.....nice job rock star

but we're totally off topic now, so....

exactly, which is why the majority of people from older generations are more disgusted that the younger generations use the word so freely.

Yes because that's what black slaves would've wanted. For all of their misery to be erased from history.

Whites had their chance to use the word and they blew it. Now it belongs to blacks and we'll use it as a symbol of survival.

If whites can't understand that too bad.

nah. it still seems like it has racial undertones when a white person uses it unlike when blacks use it as an interchangeable pronoun like "dude".
