Lackluster year of films so far?

The year is off to a great start for myself.

I loved Watchmen and thats shocking because I hated 300 and it's a March movie. And I liked Taken. It's a masterpiece for Janurary release.

Watchmen 9/10
Taken 7/10

I wasn't as in love with last year as everybody else so that has something to do with my feelings. I loved a few movies but the amount of money a movie makes doesn't make it the greatest movie ever to me...not saying that most feel that it does...

I'm looking forward to seeing what the word is on Terminator: Salvation and Startrek before a lable the year... anything. I wasn't hugely looking forward to anything last year so, again, I'm in a different boat than most on here.

It is only mid-March, there's usually not many good movies released at this time of year. What movies that came out before mid-March last year did you think were really great?

Honestly Watchmen is better than any movie I saw in 2008.

aside from watchmen, dragonball evolution and wolverine there might not be many super-hero movies this year due to delays caused by last years strike

Transformers 2 and Harry Potter 6 are a lock in with T-4 and Wolverine. I am nots o sure about Star Trek just yet. Monsters vs Aliens looks good and Fast and The Furious is around the pike. So better films should pick up around may.
Really only good movies as i suspected so far was Taken/Watchmen and Race to Witch Moutain. Gran Torino was a nice look back if Dirty Harry retired or forgot to take his medemusal.

A bunch of us were discussing this after a commentary recording a few weeks back. We noted that this summer seems really without any "blockbuster" films except Wolverine, Terminator and Transformers :csad:

Hello Writer's Strike hangover.

Between that and the uncertainty with the actor's, it's not surprising that this year's schedule looks weak. There just weren't that many movies that were started last year for various reasons. Especially of the big budget, high profile variety.

Plus they're cramming everything into May so the rest of the season seems to pale.

It's March. Nothing mega huge has really come out, save Watchmen.

Rambo=terrible. F.

You're actually looked forward to Fast and Furious, I'm sorry.

So besides Rambo (ugh), what great movies were released between Jan and March last year that made this year so disappointing?

idk how you can like Rambo and not like F&F

I am curious to see if any of the comedies this year becomes huge hits at the box office, much like Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express in 2008. From what I have seen so far and it's early, there won't be any comedies outside the animated movies that will be gigantic hits.

I think Observe and Report might be this years Pinneapple Express. Then again who knows

I don't think it's the quantity per say...it's just that so FAR the movies that have come out that have had any kind of hype at all haven't really lived up to expectation...for me. So it makes me less confident for future releases who might fall into that same problem.

(your) summer does not look like it's gonna be any better either..

How about Star Trek and Harry Potter?

I'm counting on a few movies to get me through 09

Terminator
Star Trek, i don't know the more i see and read the more i like
Public Enemies
Moon, look it up
The Road, if it ever comes out.
Where the wild things are, i trust in spike jones
I really hope avatar is mind blowing
Inglourious Basterds- i have a soft spot for tarintino no matter how crappy the movie is and for the record i absolutly loved grindhouse, i don't know mabey i was at a certain age when it came out, but i loved it

oh, and the wolfman, i'm disapointed it got pushed back to november, otherwise it'd be like a few weeks away

So besides Rambo (ugh), what great movies were released between Jan and March last year that made this year so disappointing?

One word: Cloverfield.

Say what you will, I thought it was awesome.

So far this year I've seen:
My Bloody Valentine (gf's idea)
Coraline
Fanboys
Watchmen

Of those, Watchmen is of course the best with Coraline and Fanboys tied for second (but with Fanboys slightly ahead).

As for the rest of March, I'm mildly excited about The Haunting in Connecticut, but that doesn't mean I'll rush out during the first few weeks to see it. Heck, I want to see Watchmen again before I see any other movies.

As far as movies I'm looking forward to in April:
Adventureland (can't go wrong with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig)
Gigantic (indie Zooey Deschanel film)
The Soloist (Robert Downey Jr is a journalist, Jamie Foxx is a bum)

I first saw the Observe and Report trailer with my brother and he said, "Didn't they already make Paul Blart and it wasn't funny?" I share his sentiment.

April is pretty much a dud month, in my opinion.
