'Lair' Hands-on preview: Too much for the Ps3 to handle.

As far as we can see, there are not.

The chances of there being parallels is not too shabby when looking at the way Sony has handled the demoes for their games thus far.

Given the fact that Factor 5 has to physically give Sony the demo software, it depends more on the developers and less on what Sony does or doesn't do. If the developer is lazy, they are going to give an out-of-date demo to Sony to act as a representation of the game in said show.

The developers give Sony the demo, but it's entirely up to Sony when they show it. You're right about Sony only showing what they have/what the dev has given them. The only known updated demo that has been shown was the build at GCD which was just a slightly updated version of the demo used at E3, it ran a bit less choppy but that's all. We don't know if Factor 5 ever gave Sony any other demoes or if F5 worked on any other demoes. CES isn't a big event for games developers by any stretch. Diverting resources and time to making a new updated demo for CES would be a waste by most devs estimation. If I had to make a bet I'd say it's not a build that we haven't seen before.

Just look at how Sony has been sitting on HS, despite having a new build of the game with a new environment that they've been sitting on for months. HS was a no show at CES.

Except that Lair isn't in early development.

No, but then again it's not like you can look into the dev studio to see what state the game is in now. The E3 build was rough, not in framerate alone but in game mechanics, and people speculated that the game would end up being delayed past the announced march date.

And actually, MS isn't graphically intense. It's graphics are nowhere near the highest quality graphics we've seen so far out of either systems.

Well you're wrong but that's ok.

Maybe in the HUD-less replays, but in-game is far less impressive.

Dynamic camera angles are the only difference in MS.

You'd think that if they had updated and refined the game to be similar to what they are working on now, it would be somewhat up-to-date.

Except of course that you don't know if that demo was representative of the current state of the game, or how development is proceeding at all.

Yeah, Lair might have been a bit choppy at first being unveiled.. but then again, what'd I say about first builds? Everything after that didn't look near as underwhelming and no one had said it looked near unplayable before.

So you're saying the game has gotten worse with more development time.

Personally, I don't understand why you think Factor 5 is one of the most talented developers in the industry, as that has yet to be seen, but okay.

Because they are. Their Gamecube launch game set a standard that wasn't surpassed by anything except their next game. They are widely considered some of the best technical devs in the industry.
