Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in Atari, a pitch that writers Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman sold to Paramount Pictures on Friday about the godfather of the video game industry, Nolan Bushnell.

The Hollywood Reporter says DiCaprio's Appian Way is producing the biopic, which the filmmakers hope will play with elements from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Tucker.

Bushnell was an engineering student, puzzle-lover and game enthusiast who went from fixing broken pinball machines to launching Atari Corp., a video game manufacturer, in the early '70s. Its first product was a little game called Pong, which led to hundreds of millions of dollars worth of video game sales. Within a few years, he sold the company to Warner Communications for $28 million.

During the next three decades, Bushnell started many other tech ventures and also created Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theaters.

Oh, I am seeing this. Atari was my first taste of gaming as a youngster.

If the above is not a teaser poster, I am kicking the marketing people's asses.

Funny weren't we saying he would jump on another project?

Atari? Very nice. Should be fun to see who they cast alongside Leo.

the last few movies he has done have seemed like over budget oscar bait. He needs to get back to what made him a name. Humble character driven movies like "The Basketball Diaries" and "Whats eating Gilbert Grape".

Haha i know this movie will proboully turn out well in an overall way.

Actually i think he has made some good decisions these last couple of years . He already has made a name for himself and is choosing better roles . I hope that he does get an oscar sometime down the line because I'm sure he will be deserving .

damn! leo's doing a lot of films from 08-09, 7 films. the last time he did 7 films was in the span of 6 years not 2. :woot:

watch tomorrow "leo lands 4 new roles"

Why would he want or need to go backwards ? The Departed and Blood Diamond were outstanding and he was brilliant in both, he seems like he makes what he wants to as opposed to having an ulterior motive, plus your initial post was worded like he had already won an Oscar, which is why i responded with "".

Cool, I guess but Myamoto's story would be much more interesting. However, he's Japanese, so Hollywood will never touch that. :p

If they did the Nintendo story, they'd make sure to have Tom Cruise starring as Howard Lincoln, and Miyamoto would be played by Ken Watanabe as second billing.
