You know, I miss the days when we had things like the DTL and Contest of Marvels going. There was a time when we had games out the wazoo and it helped people come together in the comics forums, but that all died when mods separated the games from the regular forums due to over-abundance. Well, I considered doing another Contest of Marvels but knew I just didn't have the time to do it. Maybe run it, but not play in it... and even running it was questionable. And I honestly don't think we'd have enough interest these days for that sort of game.

Then I got to thinking... what if we worked together to create a game that we'd all like to play? Then I had an idea... what if we created a sort of Fantasy Football sort of game based on Marvel Comics?

I don't have it all worked out yet, but in my mind I envision people drafting maybe 5-8 Marvel characters currently being used in comics. A season would be either a specific event or story (like Infinity or the upcoming X-Men event) or perhaps a set period of time (9 weeks or something like that). Then each week a person would pick, say, 3 of their characters based on the stipulations we lay down (more on that below). The week would play out, the points would be counted, and then we move on to the next week. It could be head to head matches against each other or just keep a running talley of points.

As for the stipulations, I'm talking points for specific things that happen in comics that week. Like, 1 point for every punch a character lands. -1 point for every time a character gets hit. 5 points for landing the blow that ends the battle. 3 points for character kissing someone else. -5 points if character dies. etc.

Based on the solicits and the events of the story that's been building, the players would pick their characters that they feel have the greatest potential of gaining points.

If you like the general idea I figure we can lay it out. If we can get it ready in time we can maybe play a Marvel Infinity game, or maybe skip that and do a season based on the X-Men crossover coming up. Or perhaps we can skip all that and have players pick a specific number of titles that would be their title.

So what do you guys think? I figure it'd be fun to do and it wouldn't take up hardly any time at all for people to play. Basically, a draft would be the most time consuming, but after that you just pick a certain number of characters and read your comics. Then we just pull the points.

Ha...

Personally, I love the idea, and if I were 20 years younger with little to no responsibilities, I'd probably be right there pushing this with you...

BUT... I have a new baby little girl coming my way in about 8 weeks, so what little time I have now is going to go the way of the dodo...

But it's all good... :yay:

That's why I actually like this idea. With the exception of the draft, the rest of it can be done in about 5 minutes per week.

I'd actually be more interested in participating in another Dream Team League. I was in like one of them like 9 years ago and thought it was fun.

The DTL was a blast. I was in the first 2 and for half of a later season and LOVED it. Unfortunately, it just took up WAY too much time. I could never do it now, but I'd love to see others start it up.

I still have some of my old team banners.
