Okay not really, but the actor is!

'Heroes' Exclusive: Sylar's Dad is Lionel Luthor!

To restore the super to Heroes, the show is going -- but of course -- to Smallville!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the struggling NBC drama has tapped John Glover, a.k.a. Lex Luthor's dad, Lionel, to play Sylar's father.

"When Sylar meets his father, he's going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn't want to take," reveals a Heroes insider. "He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized."

The Tony award winner, who recently booked an arc on Brothers & Sisters as a love interest for Ron Rifkin's Saul, will turn up towards the end of Heroes' forthcoming "Fugitives" chapter.

Do you see the family resemblance?

Sounds interesting. I'm, since they reference that his father opens that door to a path he doesn't want to take, is actually using his powers as a hero rather then a villain.

Possibly the best casting news I've heard all season.

Now, it says he is Sylars father... do you think that Angela is still his mother or was she lying to him like Arthur was?

Mmm I don't know, I kinda like the idea of Angela being his mother and sylar showing at least a little respect for her and no one else, but I think she was lying too.

:facepalm These writers never learn.

I kind of hope his still a Petrelli so I hope Angela is his mother.

I think whoever said that it is like a child playing with action figures or imagining stories is absolutely right about these writers.

"And and then...umm Sylar is a Petrelli! But then he's not! then his real dad comes! OMG! AWESOME!"

Its like a frickin soap opera.

I agree. So, when will the talk about this show being no better than Smallville will start?

Oh, wait...

Oh great now their using The smallville Lex Luthor formula on Sylar .

This series is going down the tubes really fast .

This news reeks of a lack of imagination.

Sigh... although he's a decent actor, it'd be better to go with someone else who hasn't already played the same sort of character on a similar show...

I would add a slick comment about how terrible this probably will be but people already did it. Thank you! :D

While I can understand that it's a pretty easy conclusion to jump to, that this'll be a rehash of Lionel, I want to remind everyone that it's just that. Jumping to conclusions. We already know that Sylar's relationship with his father won't be the same as Lex's with Lionel because Syla's family situation has been completely different thus far. And there's nothing to indicate that the character will be at all similar. For all we know, he may be a sweet old man who tries to help Sylar's struggle between his guilt and his being a psychotic nutbag

Even if its not a rehash of Lionel, the decision to give Sylar the original Daddy Issue, and then cast the most recent representation of superhero-genre Daddy Issues is, to say the least, lacking in creativity. Giving Sylar a sweet old man as a father would be create, no doubt, but that's not something Glover would be cast for, imho, and even if he was, its a matter of time before the writers start writing towards his strengths.

Again, he doesn't have to be Lionel for this to be extremely dull and uninspired.

We will see but I certainly understand why fans are weary:o I don't watch Smallville so this could go either way for me.

Glover is a much more versatile actor than that. And all we know about the story so far is that Sylar's meeting his father. His dad could be what leads to the reformed, significantly less broken Sylar of the most recent alternate timeline. I'm not saying that this will be the case, of course. I'm just saying, people shouldn't jump to conclusions when we have so little information. So far the only elements we know of are Sylar's father, which has potential to be good or bad, and Glover playing him, which means that at the worst, we have a bad storyline with a great actor.

I don't either. I just think the whole bring Sylar's real father in after we have spent 4 months dealing with him being a fake Petrelli gimmick is stupid. It is further proof that the writers have ran out of things to do with the character.

Also, how many fathers can they introduce? First Parkman, then Papa Petrelli, now Sylar? Is this like a seasonal theme? ______'s evil father comes!

Seems to me that they had an idea for his character arc, but this season they completely rushed it and backtracked on it so many times that his story's all tied up in knots. I think the basic structure of the arc that we've seen: Quiet loser becomes wannabe super villain becomes conflicted nobody becomes someone with a chance at actually doing good with their lives, is a good one. And was handled pretty well in the first two seasons. But near the end of season two, and pretty much all of season three, they've rushed through it so much that it hardly feels organic at all.

Honestly I like this I totally understand everyones complaints about how the show has been written the past 2 seasons but i still love it and this is just another casting decision that i think is great. Im just sad that Chad Faust from The 4400 was only there for 2 eps. So sad
