Horror Lionsgate developing American Psycho remake

Following the publication of this story, IGN learned from a source close to the production that Austin Butler has not yet closed a deal to play Patrick Bateman in the new film. While it's true he is being eyed for the project, nothing is set in stone quite yet.

Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote the novel, is saying it’s all bullsh*t. He doesn’t believe Guadagnino’s film is actually happening. This is what he said on his podcast:

I have a feeling it’s fake news. I heard somewhere, from someone, that there are no contracts. Austin Butler hasn’t signed anything to play Patrick Bateman. Luca doesn’t have a deal. Scott Burns, who is supposed to write the screenplay, doesn’t have a deal either. From various sources that I have, this is just fake news that was put out there to see how an audience is going to react.
Ellis’ theory is that the project doesn’t actually exist, and the news we’ve gotten so far is someone just “testing the waters” to see if such a project could pique the interest of an audience (or buyer). All he knows for sure is that he’s not involved in it whatsoever:

If it does exist, I am not involved, I have nothing to do with this, I might get some money if they do this, but I am not involved creatively on any level, and that is all I know.

According to a new report from Jeff Sneider in his The InSneider newsletter, Guadagnino has still be working on his planned American Psycho film, and that writer Scott Z. Burns is expected to have a script ready to turn in sometime in the next few weeks. As for Austin Butler, who was reported to star in the movie as Patrick Bateman, his inclusion is not guaranteed as of yet, but Sneider notes Guadagnino has met with the actor, along with many others, about potentially starring in the movie.

Despite the work on the movie, Sneider’s report says that no official offers or contracts have been extended to anyone, meaning that, for now, the movie is not officially greenlit. Sneider reiterates that the project is very much real, though, and calls it a “priority” to Lionsgate.

Now we wait on who will be playing Jared Leto's character.

First Austin Butler is it and now it's Patrick.

I still say it should be Pattinson, I don’t care if he’s 40

Give it to him and let the maestro do his thing
