I call it that 'cause there's Haunted Knight, The long halloween and, Dark Victory. And the first is just the Halloween specials they did but they are what inspired them to do TLH. I recently reread the three, and I forgot DV is somewhat a sad story. Batman and gordon have lost their friend, Harvey Dent, and it has a sad tone to it. you feel bad for Batman searching for his lost friend hoping he can help him somehow, and Jim missing Dent.

It's not quite as good as TLH but still very good.

If any of you haven't read them, go get them!

You can see the influence in the new Bat movies which is cool.

And I love how Loeb's put his own spin on these classic villians and characters. He's made Mad Hatter and Scarecrow so creepy, and added a nice psycho/obsessive feel to the Riddler.

this should go in the recomendation thread but yeah i agree, it is a good trilogy

Haunted Knight is part of it? I thought it was TLH, DV and then Catwomen in rome. :o

so does Haunted Knight happen after Dark Victory or?

I dont think Haunted Knight is related to Long Halloween and Dark Victory at all. Its a stand alone story/stories.

that's it. in this case, it's much easier to say that when in rome is part of the trilogy, even though it's a spin-off.

What's amazing is Sale's art. Initially it's just weird and inappropriate. But the reader grows to accept it, and then love it. It's wonderful art.

Not quite a spin-off - it came first. TLH and DV exist because of the three halloween specials in Haunted Knight.

You misread what he said. Hes saying When in Rome is a spinoff

I liked "When In Rome" a little, but it screws with Catwoman's origin even more. They need to fix that eventually.

Dark Victory was pretty good but nothing beats The Long Halloween. The only thing I thought was funny about DV was how Robin came across the Batcave and Bruce Wayne owned up to his alter ego. "I'm pretty much Batman...Whoops! There goes my identity!"

Haunted Knight was bad in my opinion. I just couldn't get into it for some reason.

I think that it's great that Chris Nolan is basing a lot of "The Dark Knight" on these books. I can't wait to see how Harvey Dent does in the new film!

i thought every batfan regarded this trilogy as some of the best material Batman had to offer, but lately when asked about it, a lot of fans say TLH is either crap or overrated or just not as good as everyone says.

I wouldn't say crap. That's a really strong word. Overrated, I'd say is true. But I wouldn't use overrated to mean "not that good" either (which is what a lot of people mean). It isn't the best Batman ever like a lot of people hold it up to be. It is very good though. I liked the second one more just cause of Robin. I'm interested in re-reading Long Halloween to see just how much of a detective story it really is though-- to see if you could figure stuff out like in say, Death-note.

I finally read Catwoman When in Rome, I enjoyed it far more that TLH or Dark Victory. Everytime I flip through those those stories they become exponentially worse. Loeb tries to be all hard boiled but it's just painful and embarrassing to read.

My only real problem was Poison Ivy's design.

TLH was the first Batman comic I ever read. It's damn good.

You must have Dark Victory confused with something else, because that's definately not what happened in that story. In Dark Victory, Dick sneaks off to the circus one night after Bruce has taken him in and slings some stones at one of Tony Zucco's men in an ill advised attempt to investigate his parents' deaths. Edward Skeevers cracks him over the head, then Batman swoops in and rescues Dick as he's losing consciousness. He wakes up in the cave, and Batman takes off his mask, deciding to open up to Dick and, drawing a comparison to Harvey Dent, hopes to have a positive effect on him by showing Dick the kind of trust he never did Harvey: end of issue.

Letting Dick know his identity was very much a conscious decision as told in Dark Victory.

if anyone is a fan of sale's take on TDK,

check out TALES OF THE BATMAN.....

the author is darwyn cooke ETC.

yeah bloody hell, worst Ivy evah. Sale seems totally lost on her, he cant decide if she's hot or witchy or plant or woman. Her hair is green; removing the contrast between her hair and body (orange and green) makes her looks very sterile and almost sickly and not in the right way either. Her afro hair is a goofy shape as well and the facial expressions and 'sexy' body language just make her look a wonky chick who took to many pills in da club and is trying to act hot but justs looks really girly and lame.

I felt really weird getting a ***** while reading When In Rome. lol

so, of the three what are your faves ?????????

i personally like haunted knight & also Tales of the Batman (it's not loeb, but it rocks)

Haunted Knight is real boring, but The Long Halloween and Dark Victory were downright awesome.

Mmm, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I found Haunted Knight very entertaining, especially the first one featuring the Scarecrow (I love that BB stole one of Scarecrows lines from this one "Dr. Crane isn't here right now..."). The last one with the homage to A Christmas Carol was a little dopey, but still a fairly good read.

I liked "When In Rome" a little, but it screws with Catwoman's origin even more. They need to fix that eventually.

I much prefer Catwoman's origin arc in TLH/DV then in other books. But yea, DC needs to fix that.

the modern catwoman was very well protrayed, probably better than any modern arc in TLH... i even liked it better than YEAR ONE
