LOGAN by BKV and Risso

BKV returns to Marvel...with a 3 (or 4, depending on the source) issue MK mini titled LOGAN. Why BKV would want to do a Wolverine story is beyond me. At least the art by Eduardo Risso looks good.

I'm not in the camp that thinks it cool to hate Wolverine because he's overexposed. He's still a cool character. I'll get this because of that and because it's BKV. Still, if I had a choice, I'd rather see him back on Runaways.

I don't hate Wolverine. We just get enough of him already. Why waste BKV's talent on a character already being used so much? That and the fact he's barely going to be writing for established characters anymore.

I absolutely love Risso, and with a new colorist his work has a very different tone from 100 Bullets. Getting this for sure.

The realist answer? BKV wants to write something for Marvel that people in large numbers will actually READ. Watch. He can produce A+ work for RUNAWAYS and THE OATH, but even a phoned-in LOGAN story will garner higher numbers. I mean, WOLVERINE ORIGINS scores decent sales yet hardly anyone claims to enjoy it too often. Not just here, but other boards, too.

Not to say it won't be good, but usually, Mediocre Wolverine stories will outsell better stories with lower rep characters.

I will probably check it out, although, damn, he couldn't even do a 3 issue arc for RUNAWAYS again? Oh, well.

I wouldn't call it "phoned in" just yet. That description can only come after actually reading it. But I do agree; even a 3 issue arc on Runaways would've been better. Although, only if that meant Alphona would be with him.

I know. I agree that it'll probably be good. The news of BKV doing a Wolverine story just makes me mourn the loss of Runaways even more, though.

And maybe BKV is exhausted with the Runaways. He might not have any more stories to tell that would not make him feel that he was overstaying his welcome on such a stellar book.

I'd rather let him do what he feels is a strong story than typecast him into the Runaways.

Give the poor guy some time. Let him write his Wolverine story. Logan is a great character. He didn't become a Marvel icon for being a horrible creation.

What I personally want to see BKV on would be something like Ultimate X-Men where he can bring back some of Runaways teen drama.

And is it too bizarre to imagine what Ultimate Runaways would be like?

Don't get me wrong, I know Wolverine is a good character. The issue some of us feel is he's been overexposed for so long that his appeal is lessoned. It was from "can't get enough" to "take a vacation". Popularity ruined him to some degree, because you can't be an underdog and an A-Lister at the same time.

Kind of like Batman in a way. Good character, but by god, has he been overexposed, to the point where any new mini or something elicits groans at the beginning.

Yeah, I hear you. At any rate I'll pick it up. I don't know if BKV is my favorite writer or not, but I can say that I've not been displeased with anything he's ever written. Risso's art is the icing on the cake.

Quite true, Dread. That is the problem with the monthlies. Everyone flies off the handle with their oppinions after every issue, or sadly, in a lot of cases before the issue even comes out. Not many people can sit back and look at the big picture.

You just don't see people judging novels on a chapter by chapter basis.

Batman is horribly overexposed, but if you know how to wade through the crap you'll do fine. I'm immensley loving Batman in his self titled series along with Detective Comics and JLA.

Despite all the whining and crying that goes on in message boards, it's a great time to be a comic book fan. Wait for the nineties to come back before you start complaining.
