Horror Longlegs

When some people hear “scary”, they think of huge jump scares or crazy violence/gore. Seeing it tomorrow, but this movie is likely not like that.

I think this is going to be very divisive for people. Overall, it’s definitely closer to Silence of the Lambs and even True Detective than Hereditary or The Exorcist. Perkins has the atmosphere and visuals down, but some choices made in the last act were head scratchers.

I have seen it.

Two things:

1. This is exactly what I expect from Oz Perkins.

2. The hype machine is gonna bite them in the ass, expect many normies to call this "boring" and "not scary".

Did you personally enjoy it though?

This very much feels like a demon-spawn of Silence of the Lambs and Hereditary. Easily Perkins best film. Just such a densely evil ambience that Agent Harker is trying to plow through that permeates the whole film. Not a ton of jumpscares, but scary in the way that keeps you on edge, refusing to give the release of the jump.

I get the worry that there will be a backlash for it not being action-packed enough, but IMO the trailers were an accurate reflection of the type of horror movie it is, and I thought it was very well-paced. My showing was fairly full, and it was added at the last minute because the two originally scheduled filled up. Hopefully WOM will be good, but its already off to a great start in that regard.

Me when they lingered on the shot with Maika Monroe in her house looking through those documents and waiting for something to pop up in the kitchen in the background

I will say I don't think this movie will give me nightmares or anything but I'm curious what was the last horror movie that made you guys lose sleep over?

To me, it was either Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, Incantation, or maybe Skinamarink.

Horror movies honestly don't scare me, even the most ****ed up ones. I'm so desensitized by all of it, at ths point.

The only nightmare I ever remember having in relation to a scary movie was the original black/white House on Haunted Hill, which I watched with my dad when I was super young (like 4 or 5). The old lady gliding by on the skateboard got me good.

I won't spoil it but there is a Nic Cage scene in this that should belong in the "Cage losing his sh**" montage.

I saw it. I definitely liked it, but I'm not sure I can say I loved it. Definitely went down a road I didn't expect at all. And it had a twist or two that I didn't see coming. So props to it for that. Cage was great in the role, as expected. Very uncomfortable character to watch onscreen. Were the Oscars more accepting of the horror genre, I'd say it was Oscar worthy. Have to say though, I'm a bit fatigued by this modern horror trope of characters waiting about 10-15 seconds to respond to each other lol. That grates a little. Especially when virtually every modern horror movie that can respectively lay claim to being called 'art' does it. I agree with others in this thread in saying that it wasn't a particularly scary or even especially creepy movie. My acknowledgement of Manhunter earlier in the thread actually feels very in line with the vibe this film has going for it. Even moreso than TSOTL imo.

Seeing it today, in an hour and a half!

When i saw this mentioned i instantly shuddered. Horror, dread and atmosphere is my thing but damn that film was a tough one to get through.

Just came back from the cinema myself and liked it alot. Has it lived up to the ridiculous hype? nope but i really appreciate the craft that went into this. There's no time to rest during this film with constant dread and a damn good sound design to accompany it. Previous films that have been mentioned here have inspired Longlegs but it makes for intriguing viewing in its own right. My showing was quite busy but everyone seemed engaged and you could hear a pin drop with how quiet everyone was. I usually bang on about horror films and the atmosphere they create. This film has it in bucket loads. I will see it again at some point but my current rating its a 8/10 . Maika was great aswell, She gave a slightly unhinged performance which is understandable for what her character goes through . Nic Cage cooked. Knocked it out in Dream Scenario(One of my best films of 23) and does so here again.

This one will linger for abit. I generally enjoyed the technical ability Perkins made on screen for this to be a tense rollercoaster. Definitely recommend.

Based on all the post-release reactions I’m seeing, it’s good but it’s not quite as “AHHH SOMEBODY HELP ME I’M BEING DRAGGED INTO HELL!” as the early reviews made it out to be, so I’m really going to need the early reviewers to dial down their bull**** a few thousand notches when it comes to this stuff.

Like, enthusiasm is great, but who benefits from building up expectations so high?
