So that being said, would Maxxxine would be considered a bomb?

That's actually kind of incredible. Honestly, that's more of an achievement than the movies that have done gangbusters at the box office like Inside Out and Deadpool.

Longlegs had to compete with a lot, and I think most of us can say that the hype may not have matched the final result, even if you still enjoyed the film. This could've cycled in and out of theaters in no time, more so with big films coming out to take screens. But it kept crawling along to outgross something as big as a Mad Max film. That itself is an achievement, and shows that word of mouth even for smaller films like this still does wonders in the face of bigger movies and blockbusters taking up the conversation.

Second viewing today AKA
the spot-the-devil edition. The one in the kitchen door got me this time.

Some of the replies I’ve seen to this clip of people puffing out their chests and saying they’d never find this scary is so funny to me. Even after all this time, some folks have the most narrow definition of “scary” and “horror” possible.

“Unsettling” and “creepy” have just as much value as a jump-scare, mother****ers. Implications have just as much value as gore.

I thought the
the satanic stuff was lame and incredibly played out.

That being said, everything else about this flick was incredible from a filmmaking standpoint.

8/10

Yeah that’s the one thing I agree with. I guess didn’t have an issue with
Satanism per se but it all seemed like it could have been handled in a more subtle way, like in Hereditary. I think having Cage say “Hail Satan!” seemed really hamfisted.

I think Perkins should have come up with his own mythology ala Sinister and Hereditary as well. For a movie this objectively well made to held back by something so cliche is mind boggling to me.
