Iron Man Looking at it objectively... How popular is Iron Man?

In my country, Barcelona in Spain, Iron Man, Ghost Rider and Also Daredevil only have popularty in "children" borned in the 70's... Daredevil has a big number of watchers because was interpreted by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner... Ghost Rider also will have the same for Cage... but Iron Man played by Rober Downey Jr... mmm he don't have a big mediatic impact here....

What has been mentioned before is....many big actors in Hollywood adore Downey...so, with him attached to the project, it's no telling what others will soon sign up.

I think most know that there is a superhero called "Iron Man" and could probably guess his look correctly if you put a picture to them. Other than that, probably not.

I have a giant Iron Man tattoo on my forearm (by Jorge Lucas, the only cover since 2003 that Adi Granov didn't do), and except for the occasional "Is that Spider-Man" from non-comic peeps, most people, men, women, kids, of all races, etc., know it's Iron Man.

i just hope the flack from marvels CIVIL WAR doesnt make people want to skip the fim thinking tonys a superVILLIAN now

Civil war will have no impact on the film, the only people who care about how Iron Man is being written in Civil War are people who are really into comics, the average guy/gal on the street, has no idea what's going on in Marvel comics lore right now, the film needs to appeal to a broad cross section of movie goers, not just comicbook fans.

You know what's funny....I think Iron Man is going to be a character that will appeal more to teens and young adults than kids. Kids tend to like characters that flip around and do crazy manuevers like a Power Ranger...It's why little kids love Spider-man or Batman. I don't think they will be as drawn to Iron Man..but I do think because of the techno side of it, young adults will really dig it.

He's a man that wears an armored suit with all kinds of weaponry and technology. Little boys will eat this up. He was made for merchandising.

Which will be very interesting considering Tony's character, espically when we start getting into the Demon in the Bottle stuff that will occur in the sequel...:o

Can someone tell me what this "Civil war" thing is? I keep seeing in people's signature images and such, i have seen Marvel character, Transformers and im not certain but maybe some other characters too.

Civil War is a huge event going on in the Marvel Universe. Some inexperienced superheros were fighting villains, and it resulted in a school being blown up. The government created a new law stating anyone with superpowers must register and undergo training or be arrested. Some heroes are going along with this, some aren't. The main leaders of the two sides are Iron Man, who is for this act, and Captain America, who is leading the resistance against it.

I think that most people/moviegoers don't know who Iron Man is.

Let´s look at it as unbiased as... Well as unbiased as a fanboy manages to be... We know that Iron Man isn´t really one of top most popular characters in comics. When you mention Iron Man, most people might think you refer to those guys who never leave the gym... How often has he been among the top twenty books in his history - unless as a member of The Avengers or The Ultimates... How long his cartoons lasted? Is he a character worth spending more than 100m, 120m? What is his true potential as a movie franchise?

Its evident that amongst the general audience ironman isn't on the popularity scale as spider-man, supes and batman but he is definately a character that can garner interest, popularity and without a doubt deserves a budget ranging from about 100 to 170m.

If thats the case he'd be a more popular character amongst a wider range of people anyway. I dont want this movie to be just another comic book popcorn flick. I want this movie to be what its supposed to be, epic. I dont want a repeat of F4.

iron man isn't as well known as some other superheroes, which means there is less expectation from it which also means it could make a big impact...

i mean, c'mon, who the hell knows ghost rider, there are comic fans that aren't even aware of who ghost rider is.

iron man is certainly more popular than ghost rider and certainly blade...let alone some of the people featured in the x-men films (certainly most of those in the last stand).

However, unike the blade movies or even ghost rider, the fans, especially those who have a genuine interest in ironman in which there are many dont want any unecessary liberties taken just because ironman isn't in the same popular boat as spiey, supes and bats. Studios can be morons like that and really go to town in ruining things.
